My favorite Christmas cookies and why you should make them this year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

Every year I scour the internet for cookies to make on Christmas. Here is a list of my favorites so you don’t have to.

1. Hot Chocolate Cookies
Based on the classic wintertime drink, these cookies have quickly become a tradition for my family to make. These cookies are brownie-like, topped with gooey marshmallows and chocolate ganache. You can spice up the recipe by using different flavors of marshmallows or top it with candy canes or holiday sprinkles.

2. Ugly Sweater Cookies
These cookies put a fun and easy spin on the classic sugar cookie. Buy some sugar cookie dough from the store or make your own and use a sweater shaped cookie cutter to make the cookies. Get together with your friends and family and decorate them using icing, sprinkles, and candies.

3. Snickerdoodles
For the cinnamon sugar lovers out there. This is a classic cookie that I just started making in the last couple of years. We were surprised to find how delicious and simple they were to make.

4. Ricotta Cheese Cookies
These are my all-time favorite cookies that my mom has been making since I was young. They are super easy and quick to whip up and the recipe makes a ton of cookies. Personally, my family tops them with buttercream frosting and red and green sanding sugar, but many people like to top theirs with a glaze and sprinkles.

5. White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies
The white chocolate lovers will definitely want to make these cookies this year. They are super sweet and chewy, and the cranberries add a nice tart flavor.

6. Pecan Tassies
These are cookies that my grandmother has been making for years. They are super easy and quick to make, making them the perfect new recipe to try. They are tiny pecan pies with a buttery crust and brown sugar pecan filling.

7. Chocolate Chip Cookies
Finally, you can never go wrong with the classic chocolate chip cookie. I have tried a bunch of different recipes, but the Nestle Toll House cookies never fail and remain my favorite. Lately, I have been adjusting the recipe by replacing the regular butter by making browned butter.
