Minimal Makeup Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

By applying makeup specifically to the features that you like most about yourself, you will actually look better than if you have on a full face of makeup.

We are exposed to heavy coverage makeup more than ever unfortunately with the help of social media. To apply so much makeup on the daily, however, is quite honestly impractical for most as there is limited time in the majority of our mornings. So, rather than cover up, I say we focus on accentuating!

One of the most effective makeup products to use is one that brightens the complexion. Blush is your go-to in acquiring that result. I recommend reaching for a cream blush; the application is quicker and has a more natural finish.

With mascara you can do no wrong. It will attract attention to your eyes, lengthen and thicken your lashes, as well as define them. It has the power to make your eyes appear bigger which is an illusion that many wish to create.

Shading in your brows is a step that can be skipped if you happen to have particularly bold brows already, but for those of us who are lacking in that department, to fill them in never hurts. In fact, doing so brings definition to the face and overall makes for a more well-groomed look.

Lip gloss is not for everyone, but I am a firm believer in it. The reason why I’m such an advocate for lip color is because of how easily it can pull a look together and even be transformed from day to night!

The best way to contour without actually contouring is the latest trend: strobing. To strobe is to highlight only. The idea is that by adding light to the face, as a result you are creating a shadow. So essentially, the highlight acts a two-in-one.

I am not someone who likes to wear foundation. I especially do not wear it in the summer heat that causes for it to melt off within minutes anyway. I suggest you opt out of wearing it as well.

Covering shouldn’t be a necessity. But if you do struggle at being secure in your skin, or happen to have a monstrous zit that you just can’t leave the house having visible, then concealer is your best bet. It is only to be applied to areas that are in need of it, however, keeping the rest of your skin makeup free.
