Just Some Tips From A Girl In A Serious Long Term Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

This summer, it will hit the three year mark anniversary with my boyfriend Austin. I am so ridiculously happy with my relationship. We are that couple that is obsessed with one another and are super in love. I thought I would share five of the millions of important aspects of a healthy and happy relationship that I have discovered through past relationships and my current/forever relationship.

  1. Be each other’s best friend: Austin and I became best friends before we ever started dating. It created such a solid foundation for us, and we were so comfortable and happy together. We are always ourselves with one another, and there is never anything to hide.
  2. Communicate: Communication is such an important and healthy part of a relationship. It can cause so many to fail; that is why it is so important to always be open and honest with one another.
  3. Patience: Patience is vital in a relationship. There are days when someone may be in a bad mood, and it’s important to be patient and gentle with each other. It is also so important for a long distance relationship. For the most part during school, we only see each other on weekends. It’s important to have patience and know you will see them again soon, and even though it is tough and can be sad, it is also important to have some time to yourselves as well. (No couple spends time with each other 24/7 all the time.)
  4. Compromise: A strong relationship always has compromises, even small ones. You are two different people that are now together to be one another’s teammate, but sometimes there may be some disagreements since you are not exactly the same. Always compromise.
  5. Have 100% true love for each other: Do not be with someone if it is not  a passionate and intense love. Be with someone who knows exactly what you are thinking by just looking at you. Be with someone who knows everything about you and loves you for who you are. He and I love one another in such a pure way, and it is something I hope everyone in the world can experience. I am a lucky, lucky girl.
