The Importance of Skin Care

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

A lot of people neglect their skin care routines. You had a late night, woke up too late, you don’t have time or just simply forgot to take care of your skin today. Every morning and every night before bed you should wash and treat your skin. Whether you have clear skin or constant breakouts, you’re male or female, young or old you should never skip out on your skin.

Think about how many things you touch every day and how many times you touch your face. Your hands carry so much dirt, germs, and toxins that get into your body. Even if you do not touch your face at all throughout the day, your face will still pick up dirt and germs just from the environment around you. The dirt, germs, and toxins clog your pores and can leave you feeling gross. Washing your face in the morning will wake you up and you can start your day feeling refreshed. Washing your face at night cleanses your skin from everything you did during the day.

Treatments everyone should consider include things like toners, acne creams, moisturizers, sun protection, and many more. No matter what kind of skin you have, there are treatments out there for you to get and maintain healthy, luminous skin. Prescription medication and treatments can be very expensive. Over the counter products work great and are very affordable. Check out the skin care isle in any drug store and you’ll find tons of options for a wide variety of prices. Once you find one that works for you and your skin then you are good to go.

Why is taking care of your skin so important? You might have really great, clear skin already. Just because your skin doesn’t break out does not mean your skin is clean and healthy. If you do get breakouts, treat them rather than popping them because you’ll be left scar free in the future. Of all these treatments and reasons to treat, I think the most important is sun protection. The sun damages your skin so much without you even realizing it. By the time you are in your 30’s you’ll start to see the sun damage and regret letting your skin burn. Not protecting your skin will leave you with wrinkles, age spots, freckles, and possibly cancerous moles. If you keep your skin healthy, clean, and protected now, you’ll keep it healthy, clean, and beautiful in the future.
