How to Save the Planet in the Shower

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

I’ve written an article like this before but I didn’t bother to write a review on the product I actually used. So, I decided to give it another chance and order from The Earthling Co. to buy their extremely good for the planet solid shampoo and conditioner bars.

I feel that as humans who inhabit the Earth and take advantage of her resources and goodness, we should start to give her love and appreciation through emitting less waste wherever we can in our daily lives. Whether that be using sustainable containers for lunches, reusable fruit and vegetable bags at the grocery store, or even bamboo toothbrushes. We have a responsibility to take care of our planet in any way we can. At this point the wastefulness and laziness in society is getting out of hand.

On my journey to lessen my waste I came across The Earthling Co.’s website and started to poke my head around, noticing that they really care about the planet and waste. As soon as you log into their website the first thing you read is, “We’re on a mission to create a more harmonious and sustainable world by offering plastic-free alternatives to everyday products”. So not only do they have options for plastic free shower care, but they have kitchen, pet, and other everyday life sustainable necessities. For now though, I was just looking for shampoo and conditioner.

As a senior in college I am entirely aware that my bank account is a bit on the rough side when it comes to cash I’m able to spend, so when I saw their prices I was a little taken aback. The bars themselves each cost around $15.00 each, but right now they’re actually on sale for 13$ and 12$. I recommend acting fast. I decided to buy one of each of their Vanilla Coconut scent and then started the eager waiting process for them to get to me in the mail.

When they arrived a week later I was so excited to see that even the packaging they sent the bars in was sustainable as well as the individual packages for the bars themselves. They smelled amazing, I might add. When I used them I first wet the bar and began to lather sections of my hair with the shampoo bar. The shampoo itself smelled fantastic and the soap easily frothed which made it simple to reach the other areas of my head without too much work. Not to mention, my usage of shampoo and conditioner has decreased immensely since I’ve been using these bars, which is great! Too much can sometimes be a bad thing for your scalp and hair health.

I believe they use ingredients that usually aren’t used in commercial shampoos and conditioners so after the first wash my hair was stripped of the commercial waxes and sulfates, which left it feeling a bit on the dryer side immediately after the first wash. But, when I used the conditioner, and I’m not being dramatic here, my hair was the softest it has ever felt in my twenty something years. Everynight I shower I am so excited to wash my hair because of this! It’s been a little over a week and I’ve noticed a significant difference in my hair’s personality and the way it flows as well as looks everyday. My natural waves have made their way back to me after years of abusing them with chemicals and the shine my hair holds is something out of a movie.

All in all whenever my bars run out I will definitely be purchasing more from The Earthling Co. because their products are amazing and their mission is even better. Not only will I be purchasing more of their hair care products, but I am also going to branch out and try their other products as well! I am extremely happy with the results that these shampoo bars have given me and I’m even happier I get to use these products while supporting such an amazing business and brand.
