Graduation is in less than a week I can’t help but look to the future and all it has to offer. Just kidding, I am very scared and I am avoiding the future at all cost. When thinking about the rest of my life being determined by my own self-will, it is a rather freighting thought. For our entire lives people tell us what to expect and what we need to do to get there. No matter what, we knew that at the end of summer we were headed back to school, it was the one consistency life could offer. Whether you hated it or not, school was there through it all. You had your friends, teachers, bullies, lunch time, classmates and sports- everything was laid out right in front of you.

Of course high school me would be shaking my head saying “this place [school] is a jungle, get me out,” but current me is saying “this place [life] is a jungle, get me out.” Lets just say life is all relative. Graduation is a scary time for some. However, a friend of mine mentioned that if you learn to expect that you’re not going to stay the same age forever, and you’re not going to get younger,  the future will come easier and is won’t be such a fight.

Putting pressure on myself about the uncertainty of the rest of my life is like asking a college graduate what they want to do for the rest of their life. See what I did? As you can tell I am nervous for this new chapter in my life; for the changes that have yet to happen. What gets me through it all is to recognize that people have been doing this thing called life long before I was born, and for the most part, they all figured it out.

If you are nervous or sacred about the future remember that literally everyone else has no idea whats going on and we are all just kind of winging it. No matter what they tell you.

My name is Kaylee Spector and I'm a senior at Kutztown University. I have a passion for reading and writing. As a writer for HerCampus I am able to be a part of keeping up with the current affairs of a college woman. I love traveling, eating and talking most of which I will be writing about. I am a Communications major with a minor in writing, pr, and digital media. All of which I find will help me with my content.
