Five More of My Favorite Male Characters: Film Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

I have made so many lists before about my favorite characters; I can’t talk about them enough! Previously I wrote about some of my favorite male characters in movies, so I have to continue on the tradition and add some more. In no particular order, here are five more of my favorite male characters in film.

Loki Odinson, Marvel Cinematic Universe

Loki is such a complicated character, and I’m here for it. He’s supposed to be more of a side character in the Thor films since Thor is obviously the star, but he steals the show. I’m really looking forward to the Loki television series.

Jim Hawkins, Treasure Planet

Treasure Planet is one of my favorite Disney movies, and it’s based on the novel Treasure Island. I love Jim’s adventurous character and comedic personality. It really brings the movie to life and takes me back to my childhood.

Samwise Gamgee, The Lord of the Rings

I started to get into The Lord of the Rings at the beginning of quarantine, and I love Samwise. He’s a loyal friend to Frodo, and he’s definitely one of my favorite characters of the whole franchise. Seeing him on screen just makes my heart smile.

Wade Wilson, Deadpool

Wade Wilson was thankfully granted the Deadpool movies to create a hilarious and fantastic antihero. It’s also able to replace our memories of him in Wolverine: Origins. If anyone but Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool, it wouldn’t be the same.

Hannibal Lecter, The Silence of the Lambs

I wonder what it says about me that I enjoy watching characters who are murderers. He’s absolutely horrifying, but just because he’s a bad person doesn’t make him a bad character to watch. Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the twisted mind of Hannibal Lecter is part of the reason why.

For me, characters really make the film. The better the characters and their development, the better the movie. There will definitely be another listicle detailing more of them in the future.
