Being excited about Thanksgiving is hard considering all the attention is being taken by the favorite sibling Christmas. Mind you, Christmas is older and known by billions of people around the world yet this does not mean we as Americans should just skip holidays.

Three days before Halloween I was looking for devil horns to finish off my costume (I was a deviled egg). While I was wandering around Target and searching through the disheveled Halloween section, directly next to it were large Christmas trees and employees setting up!

There are many things that are amazing about Thanksgiving that we shouldn’t forget about. Christmas seems to have months of preparation. It’s not uncommon to see commercials about Christmas in late September. I don’t think Thanksgiving needs to be commercialized to show it’s significants. We just need to remember why we enjoy celebrating it in the first place.

The food

It’s the one time that it’s expceted to have more than seconds. You can eat a lot and people even prepare for this dinner as if its a competition. I’ve heard people hold off food for the entire day before their Thanksgiving dinner. I wouldn’t recommend going in to this meal starving, but you do you.

The drinks

To wash all the food down. Honestly if you’re are old enough to enjoy the taste of alcohol its a great beverage to wash down the copious amounts of food you will be enjoying. Please drink responsibly,  also apple cider is a great substitute for all ages.

Of course your Family

You can talk to those people you’ve known your entrie life. It’s okay to take a break from eating and talk to those sitting next to you. And if they ask you what you’re doign after you graduate, just go back to eating.

The politics

As if we haven’t exhausted the topic. November 8th has come and gone, lets just enjoy a meal without the talk of corruption, government, and politics. We’ve been talking about for 2 years now. Just pass me the mashed potatoes please.

Talking about what you’re thankful for

Going around the table and expressing your thanks is always the longest part of the night. But try to think of somthing before its your turn so we can keep this thing moving.

Over eating

Yet again, its expected and should be seen as an accomplishment. Pat your cousin on the back for finishing his/her fifth plate of food. This is isn’t a game, its a life style.

Unleashing the food baby

Unbotton your pants, you know you want to and you know everyone already has. If you must just wear stretchy pants or no pants. It will make life much easier.

Over all, Thanksgiving is a great time and usally just ends in the meat sweats and looking for a bathroom.

Thanksgiving is a prefect time to reflect on the past year and be thankful for where you are in life and who is in it. It’s a time to thank the ones you love and respect and give back to your community. Although Christmas might be around the corner, and you might not even celebrate it, there is always time to find to be thankful. Holidays come only once a year, so lets not skip them if we don’t have to. After the festivities are over you’re more then welcome to ring in the upcoming holidays as much as you want.

Hope everyone has a Merry Chirstmas  and Happy Thanksgiving!!
