The hit television show Glee featured a large cast, which included 24 main cast members who cycled through the show’s 6-season run. Each character was memorable because of the diverse range of personalities reflected.
One measure humans use to encapsulate personalities is the Zodiac system. I thought it would be fun to analyze 12 of the 24 main characters and assign them a Zodiac sign. And do not worry, Will Schuester does not appear anywhere on this list.
Aries: Sue Sylvester
Aries are passionate people who tend to have a strong sense of independence. Sue Sylvester is a go-getter cheerleading coach who married herself. Aries are fiery in nature. They love competition and are always inventing new ways to win. Sue is no stranger to competition. In season 2, she suggested launching Brittany Pierce out of a cannon to spice up their cheer routine. Sue’s character arc also centers around the fact that she is engaged in a feud with the head of the glee club, Mr. Schuester. Sue spends all six seasons trying to dismantle the New Directions. Sue also goes through a political arc. In season 3, she runs for Congress on a platform of defunding the arts. In the final episode set in 2020, it is revealed that Sue is Vice President of the United States and intends on running for President in 2024. Sue, like Aries, is devoted to their cause.
Taurus: Mercedes Jones
Tauruses are humble while exuding an aura of luxury. Mercedes Jones is a vocal powerhouse who fiercely defends her friends. Tauruses are hard workers. Mercedes is continually dedicated to her goal of becoming a singer throughout the series. In fact, she was the first member of the New Directions. Her determination paid off in the end. In season 3 it is revealed that she was signed to an indie record company in Los Angeles. By season 6, her album was not only released, but highly praised. She then receives an offer to open for Beyonce. In the final episode, it is revealed that Mercedes is a superstar on a sold out world tour. It is also revealed that she had to turn down the starring role in Artie Abrams feature film due to her demanding tour schedule. Mercedes, like Tauruses, is stubborn in her pursuits to succeed.
GEMINI: KURT HUMMEL
Geminis are creatives who are full of life. Kurt Hummel is a quick-witted fashionista. Geminis have an innate nature to adapt to change. They are also able to find silver linings in bad situations. In season 3, Kurt and Rachel audition for the fictitious New York arts college, NYADA. When Kurt fails to be accepted, he questions his place in the world. However, once he moves to New York in season 4, he easily finds where he is meant to be. He snags an internship with Vogue and develops his passion for fashion. After getting settled at Vogue, Kurt gains the confidence to audition for NYADA again. He is accepted upon his revamped audition. In the finale it is revealed that he is a successful Broadway actor who is gearing up to have his first child. Kurt, like Geminis, is ever-changing and highly adaptable.
CANCER: sam Evans
Cancers are extremely empathetic and care deeply about the people around them. Sam Evans is a quirky loverboy. Cancers are known to be committed to their word. When Sam joins the New Directions in season 2, he agrees to perform a duet with Kurt. He remains devoted to his commitment despite Finn Hudson trying to dissuade him, stating that the implications of him singing with the only out gay person at McKinley High could ruin the reputation he was bent on building. The only reason Sam did not sing with Kurt was because Kurt backed out. Sam was also fiercely devoted to his relationship with Mercedes. He continually pines for her when their relationship ends. He cares a lot about her and strives to show her that he can be a legit support system. Sam, like Cancers, is a sensitive person who wears his heart on his sleeve.
Leo: Rachel Berry
Leos are outgoing creatives who strive to be the best in all they do. Rachel Berry is an absolute star. Leos tend to bloom underneath the spotlight. For Rachel, the spotlight is the sun. Without her ambitions to be a performer, she does not have anything. Throughout the show, she has a deep hunger for success. When the club competes at glee competitions, Rachel routinely performs solos. Rachel also consistently booked the lead role in school musicals. She also stated that she won her first dance competition at three months old. Ambition is her driving force. The ambition pays off in season 5 when she makes her Broadway debut as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl (her dream role). At only twenty, Rachel receives critical acclaim for her role. In the final episode, Rachel wins a Tony Award. Rachel, like Leos, is bold and loves the drama.
virgo: marley rose
Virgos crave simplicity and are very trustworthy. Marley Rose is the sweetest girl at McKinley High. Virgos tend to be reserved when you first meet them, but open up as the friendship progresses. Marley is an excellent example of this phenomenon. Although not a part of the original Glee cast, Marley is central to seasons four and five. In season 4, she is introduced as a shy girl who has a passion for singing. In one of the episodes, Kitty Wilde convinces Marley to do a duet with her. For their duet, the pair dress up as superheroes. Marley sports a belt with the initials WF on it. When Kitty asks what it stands for, Marley states that it stands for Wallflower. She is still anxious around the other members of the glee club, scared to be perceived as imperfect. Kitty deems that she is now Woman Fierce. In season 5, Marley’s personality starts to bloom. She is unapologetic about who she is. Marley, like Virgos, is a perfectionist sweetheart.
Libra: Blaine Anderson
Libras are very charming and sociable creatures. Blaine Anderson is both the life of the party and the heart of the Warblers. Libras also strive to be loved by everyone. When Blaine is introduced in season 2, he is the most popular guy at Dalton Academy. Everyone in the Warblers looks up to him for guidance. Kurt immediately notices Blaine’s charm. Blaine believes that fitting in is not a horrible thing. As the series goes on, Blaine’s desire to be accepted evolves. In season 3, he transfers to McKinley High. He quickly realizes that fitting in will not work. The students outside of the New Directions do not like him. He realizes the importance of staying true to oneself. By season 6, Blaine has learned to accept himself as he is. Not how other people perceive him. He has found inner peace, which is an idea Libras strive for. Blaine, like Libras, is outgoing and loves to be around people.
Scorpio: santana lopez
Scorpios are regarded as the most intense zodiac sign. They tend to be intuitive and intense. Santana Lopez is charismatic and fiercely protective of the ones she loves. She is immediately able to tell when something is up. Scorpios also tend to be mysterious. In season 1, Santana does not have much of a personality beside being a stereotypical cheerleader. In season 2, her mysterious persona starts to break down. It is revealed that her guarded personality was a way to get to the top. She did not want to be on the bottom of the social totem pole, something she feared due to her sexuality. When Finn outs her in season 3, she is confused as to how she will continue through life. But like every time before, she rose from the ashes like a phoenix. While embracing her whole self, her passion shines. Santana, like Scorpios, feels deeply and loves fiercely.
Sagittarius: Finn Hudson
Sagittariuses value new experiences and are innately optimistic. Finn Hudson has a lot of passion for the activities and people he is involved with. Sagittariuses are regarded as natural-born leaders. Throughout seasons 1-3, Finn is seen as the male lead of the New Directions. The group pays attention to his ideas because he is a natural at leading. He later becomes the co-captain of the glee club. In season 4, Mr. Shue asks Finn to be the substitute choir director in his absence. He accepts and finds a lot of joy in teaching. He enjoys hearing everyone’s different perspectives on which songs they should do, and he loves guiding them to a consensus. When Mr. Schue comes back, he and Finn act as co-directors. Finn is devoted to the New Directions, eventually enrolling in college to earn a teaching degree. Finn, like Sagittariuses, finds purpose in hard work.
Capricorn: Quinn Fabray
Capricorns are ambitious, yet value self-control. Quinn Fabray is virtuous and extremely goal-oriented. Capricorns are also very traditional. In season 1, Quinn is the stereotypical popular girl at McKinley. She is captain of the cheer squad and dating the quarterback. She is also the president of the celibacy club (ironically while she is pregnant). She holds her morals very near and dear to her heart. In seasons 2 and 3, she desperately tries to climb back onto the social ladder after the birth of her child. She is still clinging onto her past life. By the end of season 3, she has evolved her values. She becomes devoted to her studies and eventually gets into Yale. She never relinquished her ambitions for a better future even when life was hard. Quinn, like Capricorns, is heavily invested in building a brighter future.
Aquarius: tina cohen-chang
Aquariuses are independent and original. Tina Cohen-Chang marches to the beat of her own drum. Aquariuses are also known to be a bit rebellious. During the first two seasons of the show, Tina exclusively dresses in goth clothing. She rejects the social norms projected onto her. In season 2, her personality has become far more developed. She does not care if someone does not like her, she is living her life solely for herself. She is sassy and has a love for sarcasm. Tina’s personality is not the only thing that changes throughout the show, her hair and fashion sense evolve as well. In the first three seasons, she had dyed hair. In the final three seasons, she has simple brown hair. She also develops a preppier style as the show goes on. Tina, like Aquariuses, is constantly changing to be the person they want to be.
Pisces: brittany s. pierce
Pisces are imaginative and full of life. Brittany S. Pierce is the bubbliest person at McKinley High. Pisces’ kindness is usually mistaken as naivety. In season 2, Brittany makes a lot of offhand comments that make the rest of the New Directions question her intelligence. In season 4, it is revealed that she is actually a math genius. She is accepted into early admissions at MIT. Pisces are also very creative. Brittany channels her creativity through her web series entitled Fondue For Two. Brittany finds lots of joy in interviewing her friends. She also loves songwriting, despite not being the best at it. She takes every opportunity she has to express herself, even if people look down on the way she does. She is a dreamer who believes in the good of the world. Brittany, like Pisces, is a never-ending puzzle of knowledge and fresh ideas.
