I hate the cold. I hate the feeling of never being warm, the way the wind smacks me in the face when I’m trudging across campus, cursing the nefarious midwest winters that seem to stick around for months and months. Sometimes, I even forget what it’s like to feel warm and I wonder how I ever complained about how humid the summers here are.

I know I’m not the only one afflicted with the winter blues, the dread of waking up and getting out of bed, of walking outside, because I know that the icy wind is just lying in wait. But, it’s important to not let these winter blues get you down too much. In fact, there are some good things (though often forgotten) that make winter wonderful.

To begin with, it means you have every reason to cuddle because cuddling is perhaps one of the best things in this world. I don’t know about you, but I love cuddling, and cuddling in this cold weather makes it a little more durable. Cuddle with a person, a pet, a pillow— just cuddle with something!

All this cold weather makes for a good excuse when it comes to coffee. I used to not drink coffee, but then college happened, and I see now that coffee is the water of life. I don’t consider myself a coffee addict since I only get coffee every other day. I might be in denial, but I can sit a little more comfortably during this frigid winter season sipping (or chugging) that heavenly liquid.

Netflix, Netflix, Netflix. Now, I’m not the only one who sometimes prefers my bed and Netflix to going out on a Friday night… or day. With this weather and practically nothing to do outside, you’re not missing out on much. So, snuggle in your piles of blankets (possibly cuddling?) and turn on a movie or a series that will help these hellish months fly by a little quicker.

Before we know it, spring will be here with gloriously beautiful days and a million things to do outside. Maybe then, watching Netflix all day instead of doing something productive might be a little hard to justify, but let’s be honest, Netflix is forever. Cuddling will never get old and coffee transforms from hot to iced, which is a lovely addition to any sunny day outside. And when summer finally rolls around, I’m sure I’ll forget how I could ever have complained about winter.

But, until then, stay warm!
