Thrifting isn’t for the faint hearted. One must have to love it or love to save money in order to do it. In more recent years, I have been getting more accustomed to the idea of buying clothes from a thrift store. I mean I know some people think its gross wearing clothes that were owned by people you don’t know, but that’s why washing machines were invented. Right? In San Diego, I realized the value thrifting can add to your closet. Walking into a store called Home, I found clothes that were current and fashionable, but for decent price. I even got recycle high waisted Levi’s dyed purple. It was gem, especially for the price. Being in college, I am trying to learn to penny pinch because I know my parents can’t teach me how to save my own money anymore. I prefer vintage stores over something like Plato’s Closet.
Rule 1:
Don’t ever go into a store looking for a specific items. Thrift stores holds a lot of items. Some of them are cheesy, but there are a few standouts throughout the store. It is better to be excited by items you didn’t intend to buy.
Rule 2:
Try on everything. Just because it looks like it is your size, doesn’t mean it actually fits. Make sure it FITS ALWAYS!
Rule 3:
Everything is fixable. Just because there is one part of the item you don’t like, you can fix it yourself. I know it’s a shame sometimes to some items to destroy the quality, but make it work for you. Individualize it.
Rule 4:
Don’t ever shop for undergarments. I don’t think it would be a good idea to wear used underwears.
Rule 5:
Be picky. There is a whole store full of racks. You are bound to find something to work for you.
Rule 6:
Wash your clothes after you buy them. It smells like a thrift store.
Rule 7:
Always recycle clothes and give back to the thrift store. Most stores give you credit to buy more clothes, which is awesome!
