We are in a time of changes that will begin to arise. Many people of this country now know who was elected president and why.

I will not be talking about the election because that is exhaustonf for me at the moment. However, I will talk about a method that has been spread wide across the Internet of a form to help the marginalized identities that are in great fear after election night. The safety pin has become a way of people to declare that they are an ally. People wear these safety pins and declare that they are a safe space and  that they are an individual that well listen and offer support to those who will be in the main damage after Trump’s election. I have seen people post selfies of themselves with these safety pins. Thankyou for those who are wearing these pins, but also I need you to ask yourselves how much are you doing without doing anything by wearing this pin?

Yes, because you get to wear this pin and tell yourself you are creating change but are you really? If an incident happens where there is violence will you use your body as a shield to protect another? Will you step out of this silent space of safety to do more? If you will, then you are greatly wearing this beacon of hope to these marginalized identities but if not you are just sitting in your privilege. You may say ,well it is scary to use my voice or my body to fight what’s coming. We have been doing this work forever, because we are required to, in order to keep our own existence. I am not stating it is your obligation to protect these indentities, I think it is but I will not be begging for your companionship in this fight. I just want to state that if youre not for this fight of social equity and human rights then please do not give the allusion that you are.

If you wear a safety pin, be more than that inanimate object because if not you are just engaging in a action to benefit a sense of conscious that you are different and are doing something when you are actually not.
