Summer Activities To Do With Your Best Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

The spring semester is ending in less than two weeks and I am so ready for summer to begin. Not only am I excited to sleep in, tan in the sun, read novels, catch up on my Netflix shows, and workout, I am looking forward to hanging out with my friends who I haven’t seen since winter break.

Most of my best friends are out of state and I usually only see them during our breaks. I have been writing letters to one of my friends, Emily, and she asked me what plans we should make after she returns from Chicago. Her question made me think of summer activities I wanted to do which resulted to me writing this article.

I am from Kansas City and thought of some summer ideas for people to do with their girlfriends and best friends.

  • Go on a picnic at the Nelson Aktins Museum

I have seen so many people do picnics at the museum throughout the year and I believe doing one in the summer would be the best. The idea of getting dressed up and preparing food to eat under the sun to chat with friends sounds so relaxing and fun.

  • Do a summer photo shoot

Every summer I have probably doing two to four photo shoots with my friends downtown or in Overland Park, Kansas. I have gone to Prairefire, Messenger Coffee, Park Place, I-Lan Park, and more locations to take pictures. Always getting dressed up in cute summer outfits and capturing the best moments with your favorite people is always the best way to start the summer vacation.

  • Go shopping at The Plaza

I have not shopped in a long time and I am looking forward to being able to go back to shop (with masks on!) after being vaccinated. I need some new clothes and shopping definitely is always a great activity to do, especially because most of my friends love going on shopping trips together!

  • Grab brunch and eat outdoors

Another favorite activity my friends and I like to do is grab brunch. First Watch is usually our go to for brunch and its always great to grab some French toast and iced coffee in the morning while catching up with friends.

  • Go hammocking

Hammocking is something I have always wanted to do. I know a lot of people go to public parks and hammock to relax under the sun. Many people I know like to read, talk, or nap in their hammocks during the day and its an activity I definitely want to try soon!

  • Movie Marathon

Every summer I usually like to re-watch movies, especially movie series, and I know my friends and I have been planning on doing a Star Wars or Harry Potter marathon whenever we have the chance! Just re-watching our favorite childhood movies while eating snacks if always fun, especially because we can point out of favorite or funny scenes in the films while we’re watching it.

  • Craft and Game Night

I am looking forward to getting more creative this summer by painting more!! I love painting because it’s so much fun (even though it takes me so long because I am a perfectionist with it). My friends all enjoy painting and I think doing a craft night while having music or a Disney movie in the background would be entertaining! Not only do crafts sound fun, doing a game night also sounds enjoyable. I love playing card or board games and I think staying away from our phones to play some old fashion games would be a lot of fun.

I hope I can try all these activities out when all my friends are back in town for the summer. I know my friends and I will be doing internships so we may not have a lot of free time, but when we have days off, I definitely want to see what fun activities we can do before the fall semester arrives!
