Seven Tips for Graduating in Four Years

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.
This week I applied for graduation. When I tell people this is my fifth year, they usually ask what happened. So, here are seven tips to graduate on time:

1.) Believe. As a freshman, I was told that no one graduates in four years anymore. This is not true. I know lots of people that have graduated in four years. I even know one person that graduated in three years.

2.) Meet with an academic advisor. This person does not have to be the one the university assigned to you. Find someone you like and go to them for advice about classes, and life in general, if you like.

3.) Try to complete 15 credit hours a semester. Do not drop classes frequently.

4.) If you need a tutor, don’t be embarrassed. You can always go to AAAC office at 22 Strong Hall. Or, look for ads from other students wanting to tutor people on bulletin boards in the libraries.

5.) Go to the Career Center. They can help you find internships and jobs. They can also help prepare you for interviews and give you professional clothes to wear them.

6.) If you study abroad, make sure your classes transfer back as useful classes for your major.

7.) It is always okay to take summer classes. In fact, sometimes it is better than taking them at KU. I always like taking a class I do not like for three weeks instead of 16.
