Life throws curveballs at everyone whether it is with relationships, self identity, or career/school struggles, but there is always an escape–traveling! Whenever I am having a dilemma or finding myself in a tough spot, I just daydream about any other place I could be, even though I am aware it will not happen right away. By doing this, I develop a sense of optimism because I am allowing myself to distract myself from the obstacles of reality. My major is communications with a concentration in digital marketing which can be a global career if I make the best of it. I want to use my media skills to pursue challenges in the world (or even to write blogs about my findings) which can be used as a great excuse for going places.

Switzerland

Switzerland has geographical features such as mountains, lakes, and valleys, which is what appeals to most people. However, it is also an excellent spot for hiking. An aspiration I have is to hike specifically through the Alps (while being guided of course because I am directionally challenged). Another activity I want to pursue is taste testing what the country is notorious for: chocolate and Swiss cheese. A platter full of just swiss cheese with a box of fresh chocolates is all I could ask for in life. Growing up as a Minecraft gamer, I would like to visit the caves of this country as well.

Peru

Besides the Machu Picchu, Peru has many different sites and things to explore. The Red Valley is, in my opinion, one of the greatest landscapes. It can’t compare to the Grand Canyon in the United States. Although dangerous, I have always wanted to see the Amazon River, but just to look at…not to swim in. In addition to this, the wildlife in this region is very different to what is in the United States having jaguars, llamas, and sloths.

Italy

Specifically Milan and Rome, Italy is the #1 place I want to travel. The first activity I would do here is go to Fashion Week. Style is something that I value and I will give anything to see the unique clothes presented. Italy’s architecture has a distinct look that I would want to have as my dream house. This is because Italy has historical homes relating back to the renaissance era. The interior designs of these buildings consist of fine art and sculptures which is something I have appreciation for. Lastly, I would want to try authentic gelato that isn’t in the frozen isle at an American grocery store.

I, Liv Pekarek, was born and raised in Topeka Kansas, the capital of Kansas. I enjoy writing, going to concerts, shopping, and traveling. Important people in my life are my mother, my sorority sisters, and other family members. My priorities consist of academic success, mental/physical well being, obtaining good morals, and staying organized. I worked at a restaurant named “Iron Rail Brewing” for 2 years and achieved Employee of the Month in October of 2023. I attended Seaman High School. During my time at high school, I was in organizations such as “Key Club” and Clipper, the school magazine. A quote I live by is “Have courage and be kind” because it aligns with my values. I am majoring in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in Digital Marketing with a minor in business at the University of Kansas. Lawrence’s atmosphere and the campus were the main components to why I chose the University of Kansas. My main life goals are to experience different parts of the world as well as get a job in marketing/advertising.
