As we all know, LFK is known for its amazing food scene. With Massachusetts Street (aka Mass) being located within walking distance from campus (if you’re down for the walk, that is), how could you ignore all the restaurants Lawrence has to offer? Additionally, there’s plenty of hidden gems located throughout Lawrence that are to die for.
Encore Cafe
An Asian fusion restaurant located on Mass Street and it’s one of my favorite places to go in town! I recommend the general tso’s chicken or pineapple fried rice (served in half a pineapple).
The Roost
A great place to go for brunch on Mass! Be aware of its weird hours and busy times (especially Sunday brunch). I recommend the mac and cheese– this comfort food isn’t just for kiddos and it is 10/10 here.
The Burger Stand
This place is well known all around Lawrence and is located on Mass. It was the first restaurant I ever went to in town and was recommended to me by my KU representative from MN. Now, it’s one of my favorite places to go! It also has really good deals late at night. I recommend the smoke burger, truffle fries, and a shake! These shakes are to die for.
Ramen Bowls
If you love ramen, then you’ll love this restaurant. It’s located on Mass Street and makes its noodles in the store. Honestly, this might be my favorite restaurant in Lawrence. I recommend the cream cheese chicken wontons (probably my fav food in LFK), the gyoza ramen, and hawaiian style saimin.
23rd Street Brewery
This is a classic place to go to watch the game! It’s located on 23rd Street, but worth the short drive. They’re especially well known for their Bill Self mac. The Bill Self is a Lawrence and KU classic–mac and cheese with buffalo chicken and is absolutely incredible. This is also my parents’ favorite restaurant in Lawrence.
Papa Keno’s
A solid pizza choice on Mass Street! My family loves to go here because of the huge pizzas. I recommend any of the pizzas! The slices are literally as big as your head. Also, pro-tip: ask for honey to dip your crust in.
Pizza Shuttle
This is the true Lawrence classic college town pizza and is located off 23rd Street. It’s super cheap, but honestly it’s really just what you need some nights. I recommend the cream cheese pizza. It might sound gross but I assure you it’s one of the things that I miss the most when I’m home for breaks.
Sylas and Maddy’s
The best ice cream place in Lawrence and located on Mass! I recommend the dinosaur egg, rock choc. Jayhawk, and apple pie flavors. Oh, and the homemade waffle cone is a must!
Wake the Dead
The perfect place for breakfast/brunch on Mass Street! I recommend the breakfast burrito (potatoes and chicken in a burrito? Sign me up) and any of the doughnuts! Plus, they have really unique cereal cocktails and other drinks.
