As much as you hate to admit it, you can’t help but love some of the biggest don’ts in fashion. Whether it’s because you’ve had a piece in your closet for a long time and you can’t bring yourself to get rid of it, or because it’s just undeniably comfortable, fashion guilty pleasures are something everybody runs into. Half of the time you wear them around your house unapologetically, whereas the other half of the time you wear them in public with your conscious reminding you that you look absolutely ridiculous. But personal judgments aside, itâs almost a given that when you walk out of the house wearing a fashion guilty pleasure piece your friends are going to jokingly poke fun at your style choices. There is no need to get self-conscious though, as most of us share similar fashion guilty pleasures.Â
The first thing that comes to mind when I think fashion guilty pleasure is a pair of tan Uggs. Honestly, when will these suckers ever go out of style for good? The majority of people will admit that these sheep skin boots that have been popular since the early 2000âs are a trend buried deep beneath us along with velour Juicy sweat suits, yet you canât walk around campus in the Autumn and Winter months without seeing a flock of girls sporting these boots. This is only because Uggs are downright warm and comfortable. Wearing a pair is like walking on a plush cloud of fluff all day long, and itâs really hard to say no to that kind of experience even if Uggs are out of fashion.Â
Then there are Nike shorts, or better known as ânortsâ to most college students, which are some of the most commonly seen shorts on campuses everywhere. Itâs almost as if all collegiettes had a meeting and decided on a rule that norts were the nationally accepted uniform for any day that is above 40 degrees outside. When worn outside of the gym, itâs an extremely laid back look and usually is associated with not putting in an effort into your appearance. But norts are so easy to throw on itâs not even fair. When youâre late to class and the last thing you have time for is to pick out a cute outfit, norts are the go-to piece. Thereâs also the fact that on your lazy days, soft and comfortable running shorts out win tight and constricting skinny jeans every time.
When taking a first glance at this tank top, youâd never know where itâs from. Well, let us thank the Gods above that this is the case. I feel safe to speak on behalf of my demographic when I say that we still wear Aeropostale tank tops in secrecy. I havenât stepped foot into an Aeropostale since middle school, but somehow these tank tops have lasted years and theyâre still a good layering basic. Iâd never admit where the tanks came from, but I wear them all the time.Â
Finally there are the 80âs style wolf t-shirts, which have recently made a comeback in more of a sarcastic sense. After wearing it a couple times as a joke, the shirt usually makes it way into the PJ shirts drawer. But deny it all you want, these shirts are actually kind of cool in weird way. Not to mention that it serves as a conversation piece whenever you wear it in public.
No matter what, your friends and peers will give you crap for some of your fashion guilty pleasures But they can poke fun all they want, since deep down you know that theyâre the ones missing out on the warmth of Uggs, the ease of Nike Shorts, and the high-fives you get from strangers who enjoy your wolf t-shirt. Fashion guilty pleasures are everywhere, and sometimes you just need to unapologetically rock your style indulgence to keep your sanity.Â
