It’s Senior Year and You are Stress Free… Mostly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

As I enter my final year of college, I strive to make this the most successful and fun year I have had so far. However, while this sounds nice, it is something that is a lot easier said than done, as many of you know. Therefore, I spent the last 2 weeks of summer prepping and ensuring that I will be as prepared for this year as one can be. Here are some tips for those in their senior year of college, hoping to make it out scot-free.

Make your agenda as organized as possible. Whether you need to color code your weekly planner or put it in order based on priority, making your schedule is extremely important and helpful. It ensures that you aren’t falling behind or forgetting anything important in your final year as you face what seems like never ending tasks.

Don’t be afraid to see your class advisor. They are there to ensure that your last year goes off without a hitch, and scheduling appointments with them when you have questions is not something to shy away from. You are paying a lot of money to go to college, the least you can do is ensure all your worries are put at ease.

Don’t deprive yourself of too much sleep. Sometimes giving yourself the appropriate amount of sleep is the best thing you can do for yourself when you are stressed out. I can guarantee you that as long as you aren’t completely slacking off in your free time, you will have time to get your 6 to 8 hours of sleep in and it will make you feel better.

Don’t be afraid to prioritize going out with friends over assignments that can wait sometimes. As they say, your college years are the golden ones, and not something to take for granted. I know that personally, I have met the best friends of my life here, and want to spend time with them this year, no matter how busy my schedule gets. Plus, they always seem to have the cure to my latest crisis.

Start applying for jobs. Getting ahead on the job search will make you feel that much better about your upcoming graduation. Knowing that you have a job waiting for you once you get out of school takes off a lot of stress. Send out your resume out to anyone and everyone, you have nothing to lose.

Start saving money. I don’t mean money meant for groceries or going out, but for your future. Moving out of the area means laying down some serious dough, dough that probably requires a few extra hours of work per week and a few less drinks at the bars. You will hate it as you do it, but will thank yourself later.

Senior year will be stressful, there is no doubt about it. However, there are a few things that you can do to make your life a little bit easier as you do your best to survive your final year of college. You’ve made it this far, might as well finish on a high note!
