Here’s The Best Foundation For Your Skin Type

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Shopping for a new foundation can be intimidating, especially if you’re a newbie with makeup. Foundation is incredibly important to any makeup look because it provides a clean canvas and an even complextion. Any of these can be applied in a variety of ways: by using a brush, a damp sponge, or even your fingers. Here’s a couple of my personal suggestions for oily, combination, and dry skin.

Oily Skin

High-End: Estee Lauder DoubleWear Foundation

This foundation is full-coverage, but not too cakey or thick. According to the Estee Lauder website, the foundation absorbs the oil as it sets, making it perfect for anyone with oily skin. It has super long-wearing power, hence the name “double-wear”. Find this foundation at any high-end makeup counter or on the Estee Lauder website!

Drugstore: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1

This product is perfect for oily skin because although it goes on liquid, it dries with a powdery finish, soaking up any excess oil. It’s important for us greasy girls to choose oil-free skincare, and this foundation is just that. It can be found almost anywhere (Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Ulta, etc.). Furthermore, it is super long-wearing, especially considering that it’s less than $10. With that price, it’s worth a shot so give it a try!

Combination Skin

High End: Makeup forever Ultra HD

This foundation is one of my my all-time favorites. Even if you have slightly dry or slightly oily skin, Ultra HD will most likely work for you. It’s a bit pricey, but a little product goes a long way. Not to mention, it comes in 40 shades, so you’ll certainly find your perfect color match. (Makeup Tip: test the shade on the side of your jaw and blend down your neck for a perfect match)

Drugstore: Maybelline Fit Me: Matte and Poreless

This foundation is awesome for combo skin because it will mattify the oily areas of your face without clinging to your dry patches. It has medium to full coverage, more on the full coverage side if applied with a stippling brush, and medium if applied with a beauty sponge or your hands. This foundation is buildable, and goes on with a natural matte finish and doesn’t crease too badly in any areas. Maybelline Fit Me comes in a large range of shades and also comes in a Dewy and Smooth formula for my dry-skinned girls. It rings in as the cheapest foundation on the list….only $5.99 at Target!

Dry Skin

High End: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation

This foundation will make you glow like the goddess that you didn’t realize you were. It comes in a wide-range of shades and It’s incredibly light, which makes it perfect for the spring or summertime, but can easily be layered for heavier coverage. It’s a little on the more-expensive side but I promise that if you have been looking for the perfect foundation, this one will change your life.

Drugstore: L’oreal Infallible Pro-glow 24 Hour Foundation

L’Oreal Infalliable Pro-Matte liquid foundation is hydrating and smooth. It also has built in SPF 15 for some extra sun protection making it perfect for year round skincare. It has a thin consistency, but provides impressive coverage. This foundation also comes in a Pro-Matte formula if you’re wanting some better coverage.
