Haute or Hobo?

Everyone has their lazy days. You went out last night, it’s that time of month, you just aren’t ready to get out of bed. So naturally, you spend two hours perfecting the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed look. But where is the line between bummin’ it and actually looking like a bum? Here’s a few yays and nays on how to have a comfy day without being mistaken for a hobo.

Let’s start with the basics. A glowing, freshly-washed face says “I’m too lazy for makeup, but that’s okay because I’m comfortable in my own skin.” Last night’s flaking mascara, rubbed off foundation, and purple smoky eye, however, scream, “I’m currently suffering from a hangover!”

A fresh face does no good if your hair is not on point. A messy bun can never go wrong. With a few pulls and tucks you can position your bun so that it looks naturally effortless, regardless of the bobby pins and redoes it took to get there. While messy is okay, dirty is not. Running around campus with a tangled and unwashed rat’s nest on your head tells the world that not only are you lazy, but you genuinely don’t care about your appearance—or hygiene.

So your head and shoulders are covered, but what about the rest of your body? An outfit can say a lot about a person. For instance, an oversized sweater and some flattering leggings say that you can be comfy without being high-maintenance. A hoodie that might as well be a maxi-dress paired with some baggy sweats might as well say that you’re homeless.

You can’t just stop at looks. Anyone can dress in the nicest of clothes but a smell can be quick to ruin any hope at human contact. Never fear, broke college girls, this doesn’t require a brand new perfume handcrafted by Beyonce. All it takes is showering regularly and a quick once-over spritz of body mist. Not only will you smell good, but cute boys will be quick to notice as well.

It’s easy to slack in college, we all do it. And although you can slack on your notes or your gym trips, slacking on appearance will be the first way to drive people away. Remain clean, fresh, and presentable and you’ll be able to have your cake and eat it too.
