Game Day Fashionista

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

It’s that time of year again – basketball season has finally begun as football season is finally coming to an end.   With the changing athletic season comes the search for winter game day attire.  While some football game day clothes will need to be put away, there are some game day outfits that look super chic, regardless of the season.  These five essential clothing items look great and show support for our KU athletic teams all year long.

1. Cowboy Boots

So what if we’re located right in the middle of the Midwest?  Cowboy boots are a must for game days, and they work with shorts, skirts, or pants.  Not only are cowboy boots cute, but super comfy!  Standing for hours on end at tailgates or in Allen Fieldhouse can be killer on your feet, but with the right cowboy boots, walking around all day is a total breeze.

Where you can find them: Steve Madden, Nigro’s Western Store

2. Chunky Necklaces

Chunky necklaces are the latest craze to hit game days. With the introduction of Bauble Necklace, the lifespan of chunky necklaces has increased dramatically.  Pair one with a simple top and some jeans, and it can complete your entire outfit. Who knows, you might just find one in KU colors!

3. Colored Pants

Wearing red or blue bottoms to game day gives you so much variety in outfit choices.  My personal favorite way to pull this off this look is to wear a colored skirt, a simple top and my cowboy boots (see #1), but you can do this with shorts, skirts, or skinny jeans.  This is an easy way to change up your traditional game day wardrobe, and since colored pants are so in right now, you can wear them out and about outside of game days.

Where you can find them: Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Target

4. Denim, Denim, Denim

Forget denim as your favorite color of jeans, and start wearing it on top!  You can find denim anything and everything, anywhere and everywhere this fall.  Think shirts, vests and dresses as prime placement.  Lucky for us, we can wear all the denim we want on game days, because denim is technically blue…right?
