Fall Break in Lawrence

If you are staying in Lawrence for fall break and do not want to just do homework, don’t worry. There is plenty to do around Lawrence.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, KU Football will play TCU. The game is at TCU, but, you can watch it on FSN Regional. The game starts at 11 a.m.

Also on Saturday, there is the Bengali Fall Festival of India. It is an all day event at the Kansas Union. For more information for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday event, go to http://msdp2013.org

“I think it’ll be a great opportunity for people who aren’t usually exposed to Indian culture to experience a festival with so many different aspects. It is a great honor to have a Puja performed at our university, and I am extremely excited to partake!” said Kailee Karr, a Global and International Studies major at KU, via social media.

If you like music, there is a Carillon Festival. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the music by the Campanile on Saturday. If you like art, Diego Teo is the artist in residency. He will be at the Spencer Museum of Art on Saturday.

There is also a farmers’ market Saturday morning in downtown Lawrence.

The KU women’s volleyball team is playing at that Horejsi Family Athletics Center at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. They are playing Texas. The volleyball team is currently on an eight game winning streak.

On Saturday, you could go bowling at the Kansas Union. From 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. it is free for two rounds.

On Saturday, take a bus tour to Baldwin City. Then, have a ride and dinner on a 1940’s era decorated train at the Midland Railroad in Baldwin City.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Mother Earth News Fair is at Watson Park. It features demos and workshops about renewable energy, agriculture and gardening, and green building.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the ECM is holding an English-Espanol event. From 7- 8:30 p.m. you can converse with others in Spanish.

For those willing to spend a little more money, you can have dinner for $20, from 7-9 p.m. at The Merc. Pre-registration is required. You will be able to try different fall harvest dishes on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
