Chic Hairstyles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Hairstyles are vital when it comes to your overall appearance, which is why women dedicate the most time to grooming their hair in the morning, attempting to perfect every strand. Unfortunately, we, as collegiettes, live in a world where time is precious and spending too much time in the morning on hairstyling just isn’t an option, especially when we have those dreaded 8 a.m. classes to look forward to three times a week! So, to help all of you busy collegiettes, I have compiled a list of three easy and casual hairstyles that’ll have you looking put together and stylish in no time!

1. The Messy Up-Do

The Messy up-do is always popular and ever-present on red carpet events as well. This type of style can be created on all hair types and could not be easier to achieve. All you need are a few bobby pins, styling mouse, a ponytail holder and a cute headband. Apply styling mousse throughout the hair while scrunching it to emphasize the messy look of the hair. Then, gather your hair back to form a low ponytail and secure it. You can take individual strands from your ponytail and pin them randomly around the scalp. Finish the style off with a headband and you will look casual and cool on campus all day long!

2. Chignon

The Chignon is a wonderful alternative to a simple ponytail and works best if you haven’t had the time to wash your hair for a day. Start by parting your hair to the side and securing it in a low ponytail. Next, loosely braid your hair and secure it at the end of your braid with a ponytail holder. Afterwards, “butterfly” your braid by gently fluffing out pieces from the braid. Finally, you just wrap the braid up into a bun and pin it with a few bobby pins! Finish off with your favorite hairspray and you’ll look effortlessly chic all day long!

2. The Top Knot

This hairstyle is all the rage right now in Hollywood and it is a super easy and customizable hairdo for casual days, hence why it’s also great for collegiettes! To begin, mist hair with a tiny bit of hairspray and gather your tresses into a ponytail by tilting your head forward. This will ensure that you sweep all of your hair to the top of your head. Next, divide your pony into three or four different sections, depending on how thick your hair is. Gently tease each section to give your locks more volume. After, bring the sections back together again and tightly wrap the pony around the elastic band and secure with bobby pins! Spritz hairspray around your top knot to keep it in place and help maintain fly-aways. With this up-do, you’ll look casually elegant and even turn some heads in the library!
