Budget Gift-Giving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

It’s that time of year again…time to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life,” put up lights and buy presents. But, the latter may be something you dread if you are on a budget and by being in college, most of us do not have a lot of money to spend on gifts. But do not worry, you can still give fabulous presents without spending a fortune.

  • $5 gifts

Although it may seem difficult, you can buy gifts for under $5; it is just a matter of looking.

Examples:  used books, Bath and Body Works items (lotion, hand sanitizer, candles), kitchen items (oven mitts, measuring cups) ornaments, key chains, office supplies (planners, pens, note pads)

  • DIY

If you are a creative person then you can try making some gifts. Examples:  knit or crochet (sweaters, scarves, gloves), paint, write (poems, memories)

If you really want to make a gift but are having trouble thinking of something then you can always Google or Pinterest ideas.

  • Food

You can never fail with cooking. It is cheap, easy, does not go to waste and it shows that you actually spent time on it. Cookies and candies are great treats to give away during the holiday season.

  • Coupons and discounts

During this time of year many places offer coupons and discounts, both online and in stores. So, keep your eye open for free shipping and handling, codes, coupons online and in newspapers, discounts and sales.
