Have you ever heard the saying, “what you think, you become”? If you have, you probably saw it on Twitter or Pinterest. You read it, scrolled over it and then put it in the trash bin in your brain. But what if I told you that you could have everything you’ve ever wanted by simply believing it? Bet I have your attention now.
The Law of Attraction, also known as “The Secret,” is based on the theory that you attract everything in your life by your thoughts. In other words, whatever your mind is focused on, the universe will give to you. So let’s say you have a biology exam coming up and all you can think about is, “I’m so gonna fail this exam.” Don’t be surprised when you get that exam back with a big, fat, red F on the top, because you attracted it. Another example would be if you’ve ever said, “I can already tell that today is gonna be a bad day.” Did you notice that your day kept getting worse and worse? Well, you asked for it. That is why it is very important to be mindful of your thoughts.
Many successful people like Oprah, Jim Carrey and Big Sean believe in and practice the Law of Attraction and admit that it has helped them get where they are today. I can also say that it has worked for me! I used to be extremely shy, always unhappy and surrounded by negative people. Then, I discovered the Law of Attraction. When I put the law into practice, I quickly discovered who I was (and who I was not) and it didn’t take long for positive people to suddenly appear in my life, people who loved and respected me. I noticed that when I stopped focusing on what I didn’t want and stopped saying things like, “I could never have that,” or “I will never do that,” that’s when I started getting whatever it was that I longed for.
So how do you start? Here are a few tips that can help you attract the life that you want and deserve.
- Do Your Research
First, you can start by researching the law to get a better understanding of it. There are tons of websites, books, films and articles about the Law of Attraction that can help you on this journey.
Pro-tip: I start and end each day by reading a page out of one of my books to reflect and remind myself of the law (Demi Lovato’s new book “Staying Strong” is my favorite).
2. Make a Vision Board/ Goals List
The next step is to decide what it is that you want. Whether it’s good grades, a fit body, new friends, your dream car, or a hot boyfriend, write it all down on something that you can look at everyday. Make a vision board of all the things that you want by cutting out pictures and quotes from your favorite magazines, or you can make a simple list of short-term or long-term goals.
Pro-tip: I taped my vision board next to my bathroom sink so I can look at it every day. Did you know that, in 1982, Michael Jackson wrote “Thriller 100 Million Sales….Sell Out Stadiums” on his bathroom mirror in permanent marker? We all know how that turned out!
3. Believe In It
The last and most important step is to believe in it. Once you ask for what you want, you can’t doubt whether it’s coming to you. If you apply for your dream internship and think, “I’ll never get that internship,” or if you stare at a happy couple and think, “no one will ever be in love with me,” that is exactly what you’ll get. You have to believe that you deserve everything that you want and with positive thinking you can attract those very things.
Pro-tip: This takes practice. There will be moments when you want to give up on your goals, but you must catch yourself in these moments, be patient and revisit your vision board.
I am a firm believer that no dream is too big, but remember to be realistic. Don’t get the law mistaken; this is not a magical “genie in a bottle” type of deal. If you focus on Ryan Gosling, I don’t think he’s going to show up at your door on Valentine’s Day shirtless with a rose in his mouth, but don’t quote me on that… the Law of Attraction is pretty powerful.
I hope that this has inspired you and I also hope that you pass this secret on to your friends.
Happy Attracting!
