Name: Anna Meyer

Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Major: Journalism: Strategic Communications

Relationship status: Taken

Why did you choose your major: I decided upon journalism since I’ve always been a talented writer and because I’d love to have the opportunity to be a writer for my profession after I graduate. KU has a great journalism program and I feel really lucky to be a part of it.

What is something you’re looking forward to this thanksgiving and winter breaks? I can’t wait to see my two Chihuahuas at home. My mom called me a few weeks ago and told me that sometimes she catches my dog, Jet, running downstairs to my room and crying at the foot of my bed when he can’t find me. It breaks my heart to hear that and it makes me want to hold them more.

What is something you want to accomplish this year: I really would like to get to the point where I don’t jump five feet in the air whenever the steam whistle goes off.

Favorite winter outfit: A combination of my brown combat boots, chunky knit sweaters, a beanie, and a blanket scarf to top it off. Basically, the more layers the better.

Favorite movie: “The Place Beyond the Pines”, “The Titanic”, or “Into the Wild.” You can’t make me choose between those three.

Where is somewhere you’ve always wanted to travel: I think Tokyo is next on my list. I want to try all of their exotic foods and buy Japanese block prints

What is your go to make up product: Smith’s Rosebud Salve. It tastes great and I never get chapped lips because I put it on every night before bed.

What was favorite concert you’ve been to and why: My favorite concert I’ve ever been to was a Dr. Dog show back in February at First Ave in Minneapolis. I went with my very best friend and a guy I was interested in at the time, and it was a combination of having those two by my side, my favorite band jamming away in front of me, and the atmosphere of the legendary Minneapolis venue itself, that made it become one my favorite memories and one that I hold really close to my heart. Plus, halfway through the show, one of the band members bought a pizza and passed a few slices down to where my friends and I were standing. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole night.

What would you tell your 13 year old self: Be a little nicer to Mom, Dad, and your brother. Someday when you move out of the house, you’re going to wish you still had the luxury of having them around to bug you.

Blue Valley West graduate of 2014. I am an avid golf player. I also enjoy playing the cello and singing in my spare time. I am hoping to major in social work and work with foster kids
