Alchemy Anonymous

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Starbucks is a staple, and the sooner we admit that to ourselves, the better.  However, one of the great things about living in a city like Lawrence is the abundance of small, local shops—including coffee shops.  If you do an online search, you will be able to find several Starbucks located in LFK, but there is something special about buying your beverage from a tiny coffee shop in the heart of your college town, and that is what drew me to Alchemy Coffee and Bake House. Cozy and cool, Alchemy is the quintessential coffee house.

Located at 19th and Massachusetts, Alchemy is the perfect place to stop and grab a latte before window shopping on Mass or to get a Red Eye to help you power through the seemingly endless flow of reading assignments and group discussions. On my first trip to Alchemy, I had the chance to talk to barista Danny Murdock about the most popular drink, the cold brewed coffee. Recently submitted to Coffee Review Magazine, Alchemy’s own came in third for the nation and will not disappoint—just look how cool the brewing system is.

The dark chocolate almond cold brew is another popular pick and my new favorite, available freshly made or in a bottle for later.  While the selection of coffee beverages are enough to draw you in, Danny wanted to remind customers of the great baked goods Alchemy has to offer. From cinnamon rolls and homemade granola bars to fresh pies and breakfast sandwiches, Alchemy offers something for everyone, from breakfast to afternoon study sessions.

Be sure to check out this great local shop and its friendly staff!  Alchemy Coffee and Bake House is sure to be your new caffeine hot spot.
