5 Songs That Will Make You Feel All The Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Now that summer is winding down and bonfire season is heating up, it’s time to pack away the summer jams for a few months and break out the best tunes for fall. Think acoustic guitar, some warm vocals and a beat that just puts a smile on your face. So now, sit back, relax, dust off these records and put on your favorite sweater: it’s fall, y’all.

1. Noah and The Whale- Blue Skies (2009)

This song is great year round, but especially reminds me of that feeling in your heart when it’s finally fall. There is the pain of saying goodbye to summer and the excitement of knowing something great (fall) is coming. This tune is perfect for an afternoon chillin’ in a hammock under a tree with some autumn leaves falling around you. Unfortunately, Noah and The Whale (or NATW, as their fans affectionately refer to them), broke up last April, but left us with some great tunes, like “Blue Skies.”

2. The Shins- New Slang (2001)

Planning a fall road trip with your pals? This song is a must for your playlist. It just makes you wanna roll down the windows and feel the last of the warm sun on your face. The Shins have been makin’ music and helping you celebrate the colder months since 1996. “New Slang” is the perfect transition song that fills that summer to autumn void, much like your favorite cardigan.

3. Rosi Golan- Think of Me (2008)

Made famous by the 2010 drama “Dear John” (starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried), “Think of Me” is the best song for saying “don’t go” to your summer fling. One of the sweetest voices you’ll hear this fall, Golan’s lyrics have made long-distance relationships doable for couples facing a split. This song is a great reminder that even though colder months are approaching, you’ll always have the memories of a hot summer.

4. Ben Howard- Old Pine (2011)

“Old Pine” is perfect for a rainy fall day. Oh, and did someone say “cider?” This song is the embodiment of fall and the mood that comes with the season. Ben Howard is a magician with words and the guitar is—dare I say—perfect. Something about his voice just says it’s time to lay down and practice hibernating for winter.

5. The Mowgli’s- Time (2013)

Time” is just one of those tunes that makes you say, “Wow, that was good.” Much like the way fall practically guarantees a few rainy days, this ditty is sure to make you think a little. The passage of time takes on a special meeting in the fall, and this song captures the slow-yet-all-at-once way the clock seems to move during this season. This track is as important to fall as the leaves turning red and the sun starting to set at six.
