We’re hitting that point in the semester where you are getting tired and just need a break. Fall break might be right around the corner, but we still have to make it a few weeks until then. In the meantime, watching some shows is a good way to take a break from stressful schoolwork. Here are 5 of my favorite shows to binge watch right now:

1. Jane the Virgin

I know, I know, I’m a little late to the party on this one, but I bet some of you are as well. This show is so popular for a reason. Think a spanish telenovela on steroids. There are so many Things that happen every episode and I love it. I mean come on, the show starts with a virgin finding out she’s pregnant. You never get bored because the show really just makes the most wild connections to keep the drama going. And better yet, it’s SOO funny.

2. The Politician

This is a new show that just came out on Netflix. This one is the perfect show to binge watch because it is only eight episodes–my roommate and I watched it in one night. It revolves around a simple school election, but it became so much more than that. There’s tons of drama in every episode to keep you on the edge of your seat. Plus, it has an amazing cast with actors like Ben Platt and Jessica Lange. It sounds like there’s already a plan for season 2 coming out in the summer of 2020 as well!

3. The Handmaid’s Tale

Though this one is on Hulu, it’s worth the trip over to a different site. Based on Margaret Atwood’s book of the same name, this show brings the dystopian world of Gilead to life. The story is beautifully told and shows haunting remnants of our current society. Though there is a book (with a sequel that just came out!) the first season covers the first book and there are two other seasons that go past that first book. This show is definitely on the darker side, which makes sense given the topics it deals with, but it is so worth the watch.

4. Santa Clarita Diet

If you’re looking for a comedy and like paranormal things, then this is the show for you. A woman mysteriously finds that she became a zombie and then she and her family must learn to live with the consequences (which includes eating people). Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant star in this show and create pure comedy gold. Though this is one of my favorite shows and I would still recommend people to watch it, do be aware that the show was sadly cancelled after the third season.

5. Russian Doll

This show didn’t quite take off as much as many other Netflix Originals do, but it does not disappoint. It only has eight episodes right now, which makes it a quick show to binge. In this show, a woman is living in NYC and finds herself suddenly in a loop, reliving every day until she dies. Of course, the next day she is completely unharmed and must live the same day over again and find out why this is happening. Natasha Lyonne (a star from Orange is the New Black) produced and starred in the show, which already gives you a good reason to watch it. Plus, the show has been cleared for a second season!
