September is here, which means a season of change for all of us. As summer comes to an end and school is in full swing, many of us are taking time to reflect on our past and embrace the change to come. In a time of transition, my favorite way to rest and unwind is watching movies, and there is no better feeling than watching a movie that perfectly reflects the period of life you are currently in.

Here are 10 movies that celebrate change and will get you into the early fall mood!

#1 – Little Women (2019)

Little Women is a beautiful story of young women on the cusp of adulthood during the Civil War. It touches on female relationships, self-discovery, and independence. Not only does it perfectly encapsulate the struggles of navigating change, but it also gives you all the fall feels!

#2 – DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989)

Dead Poets Society follows a group of students at a New England prep school and their eccentric English teacher who inspires creativity and rebellion amongst the students. This movie is perfect when you need to feel inspired and romanticize your life at school.

#3 – Juno (2007)

Juno features a strong-minded teenage girl who unexpectedly becomes pregnant. The movie shows a deeply funny, quirky, and heartwarming story about growing up and learning how to make your own decisions. This movie fully encompasses the feeling of September to me, and Jennifer Garner’s performance will never fail to make you cry.

#4 – the devil wears prada (2006)

The Devil Wears Prada follows a young journalist who gets a job as the assistant to the tyrannical editor of a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City. The chic office vibe really makes you want to be productive, and the fashion is so autumnal and is perfect for getting inspo for your fall wardrobe.

#5 – Are you there god? it’s me, margaret. (2023)

This coming-of-age movie is about a pre-teen girl who moves to a new school and struggles with the hardships of friendship and personal identity. It’s a mega-cheesy, mega-touching story that is perfect for those facing change and personal growth.

#6 – Pitch perfect (2012)

Pitch Perfect follows Beca, a too-cool-for-school college freshman who dreams of becoming a DJ, who gets pressured into joining an all-girls a cappella group. This gives you all the college feels and is perfect to turn on and just watch, laugh, and belt along to the toe-tappingly good musical numbers.

#7 – twilight (2008)

Twilight shows a teenage girl who moves to a new school in Forks, Washington, where she discovers a long-standing culture war between secret groups of vampires and werewolves, which she (of course!) must get involved in. This movie is so stupidly fun to watch, and the visuals and music put you right into the fall mood.

#8 – Matilda (1996)

Matilda is about a gifted young girl who discovers she has telepathic powers and uses them to defend herself against her cold parents and cruel principal. This movie is nostalgic and hopeful. Its magical themes get you in the mood for Halloween without overpowering the cozy feelings of early fall.

#9 – Bottoms (2023)

Bottoms is about two lesbian best friends who start a fight club at their high school to meet girls, and it immediately gets out of hand. The acting is amazing and painfully relatable for us weird girls. The movie is fun, campy, and has a perfect back-to-school vibe.

#10 – Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a stop-motion film that follows a family of foxes trying to outsmart the farmers who are trying to capture them. This movie is whimsical, silly, and portrays themes of self-acceptance and embracing change. The animation is fun to watch and portrays fall in such a cool way.
