Almost every Kenyon student has heard (or at least heard about) David Foster Wallace’s renowned 2005 commencement speech, “This is Water.” Fans of David Foster Wallace’s writing, the This is Water speech, or famous people related to Kenyon in general should check out the D.T. Max book reading and discussion on October 1st (this Tuesday)!
For those of you who don’t know, the late David Foster Wallace was an award-winning American novelist who wrote everything from novels—like his 1996 best seller Infinite Jest—to short stories and essays. Sadly, only three years after delivering what is discussed as one of the most brilliant commencement speeches ever given, David Foster Wallace tragically committed suicide in 2008.
Enter D.T. Max, a Harvard grad and staff writer at The New Yorker, who was inspired to write a biography of David Foster Wallace published in 2012 entitled Every Love Story is a Ghost Story: A Life of David Foster Wallace. Following in the footsteps of his book’s featured character, D.T. Max will make a visit to Kenyon this Tusday to read excerpts from his book, and hold a discussion about the biography, the man, and more.
Make your way down Middle Path to Rosse Hall at 7:30 this Tuesday to find out what D.T. Max- and David Foster Wallace – is all about. For more information, check out the event’s Facebook page.
This event is sponsored by The Kenyon Review and Student Lectureships.
