Class: 2012
Major: American Studies and English
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA

HC Kenyon: I’ve heard from a bird that you do everything on campus. So what is it that you do?

Julia: I’m director of Sexual Misconduct Advising, I do study tables at the Juvenile Probation Center, Beer and Sex, Senior Interviewer, Kenyon Review, Wiggin Street.

HC Kenyon: Wow,  how do you do it?

Julia: I make sure my course load is manageable so I have time for these other activities! Things are gonna get busier though, when I start working on a film for American Studies.

HC Kenyon: What’s the film?

Julia: I’m following the lives of some of the kids I tutor at the Juvenile Probation center. The kids there have so much to tell. I worked on a film last year where I gave the kids video cameras that they could take home and use to document their lives. It was fascinating! This will be a similar concept.

HC Kenyon: So it seems like tutoring/teaching is something you are interested in?

Julia: Yes, I think I want to be a high school English teacher.

HC Kenyon: Do you ever have time to CHILL?

Julia: Yes.  First of all, I sleep late.

HC Kenyon: What is late in your book?

Julia: Around 11:00. Also my house has a TV, so I get my HDTV and Bravo.

HC Kenyon: What shows?

Julia: House Hunters. Turns out I really like domestic shows. Extreme Makeover makes me cry. Those are shows you can really rely on.

HC Kenyon: What’s one thing you will miss about being at Kenyon next year?

Julia Steinberg: Theme parties. You can dress ridiculously and then go to the Cove and no one will give you weird looks.

HC Kenyon: Any advice for freshmen?

Julia: Don’t make out on the dance floor at parties. You think it looks cool in the moment, but it doesn’t.

HC Kenyon: How does it feel to be Campus Celebrity?

Julia: I dont really know what it means…but I wanted to do anything to help the Kenyon HerCampus branch. It seems like a great idea. And I’m really okay with anything relating me to celebrity.
