Frances Bacon: The Newest Canine Celebrity on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

If you’ve ever had the privilege of taking an Anthropology course at Kenyon, you may have run into a few K9s on your way to study evolution or skeletal remains in Palme house. One of the newest additions to the Anth Pack is Frances Bacon, an adorable and spunky dog belonging to Professor Edward Schortman, and retired Professor Patricia Urban. Upperclassman may remember Alf, Professor Schortman’s pug, who unfortunately had to be put down. Frances is also a rescue dog and is very new to Gambier (she’s been here almost the same amount of time as many first years!)

Hello, Frances! Welcome to Kenyon!

*Frances processed to excitedly greet me and try to climb into my lap*

Hometown: Chicago, Illinois

Age: Around 9

Class: First-Year (She’s been here about a month)

Breed: Most likely Bichon Frise and Poodle

What’s your favorite food?

Everything! I like lettuce, surprisingly.

What about toys?

I like to get my rubber ball, throw it in the air, and chase it. I don’t like stuffed toys, though.

How are you feeling about your new home in Gambier?

I’m adjusting well. I’m adaptable but nervous!

Do you get along with your feline siblings, Peach and Sol?

Yes, humans weren’t so sure at first, but we do get along!

If you were a real Kenyon student, would you be an Anthropology major?

I’m outgoing and engaging of others. I want to know what makes people tick. So, yes, I’d probably be in the social sciences: Anthropology or Sociology.

What’s your favorite activity?

My first favorite is meeting new people. My second favorite is eating and begging for food!

Any other fun facts about you?

My humans are still getting to know me. Also, I love squirrels!
