After taking a peek inside freshmen girls Gracie Gardner and Anna Shinbane’s dorm room, I was reminded that it’s never too late to make your room more like home, no matter how far into the year we may be.

Anyone who thinks that the lighting in the dorm rooms are flattering and pleasant to wake up to is most certainly wrong. I love how Gracie and Anna made their lighting more comfortable by incorporating string lights. They got theirs at the Pearl River Market. After spending time in my really bright dorm room I realized that these lights create the perfect soft, yet not too dim look…and make waking up early that much more bearable!

Everyone has a different style and thus a different approach to dorm room decor, but I have always been a big fan of decorating with prayer flags. They just add something else different to a wall, especially if you are struggling to pick out which posters and pictures to hang up.

If you aren’t into the wall-to-wall industrial carpeting in the dorms, (or you just don’t have any) there are so many cute rugs that are both the perfect dorm room size and very pretty! Gracie and Anna chose a rug from Urban Outfitters … a quick perusing of the Urban Outfitters website revealed that there was more where that came from. A small rug is a very quick fix for a dorm room. In small spaces, accessorizing is key–even for the floor!

Another cute addition to their dorm room is the watermelon shaped coffee table next to Gracie’s bed. This was a great find at the Mount Vernon Antique store, and Gracie recommends checking it out for great other finds as well! If you’d rather simply click one over to your room, there are plenty of affordable options like this one here.

Gracie and Anna’s room is a perfect model to show that there are ways to transform your dorm from a bland space into a more homey and cozy one!
I honestly love the room setup and style so much that I can hardly leave…not kidding.
