Durang/Durang, Renegade’s Performance

You may have seen the emails from the freshmen theatre group, signed “Renegod.” There have been many recently, and that’s because the fall show run by Renegade opens this weekend at The Black Box! It’s funny and full of good stories and wonderful freshmen that are excited to show what they’ve been tirelessly working on to the Kenyon community—peers, professors, and everyone in-between.

As a freshman, I love that there is an exclusively first year theatre group to be a part of. I think it’s great that there are opportunities to direct, stage-manage, run, and act in shows with and by your classmates. Renegade makes it easy for students to create an entire production—a rarity in other colleges.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to direct one of the six one acts that open this weekend, and it’s been a blast working with my friends. My show is a parody of The Glass Menagerie, one of my very favorite plays. At first, I was hesitant – I didn’t want a show to make fun of my favorite play. But then, I realized that it’s not so much making fun of The Glass Menagerie as it is simply showcasing another version of it, one that is much funnier than the original.

As the show opens, I find myself conflicted. While I am definitely ready to have some of my time back, I am also sorry to see all of this work go. I love being around theatre, always have and always will, and the time I’ve spent working on this show has been such a fun and rewarding experience.

I’m sure you all will enjoy it too. It opens tonight, so make sure you email the Renegod: renegade@kenyon.edu to reserve tickets! The show is in The Black Box all three nights the show is up.

Come to the show, you absolutely won’t regret it.

On Thursday, the show is at 8:00 p.m.

On Friday, the show is at 8:30 p.m. Sold Out!

And on Saturday, the show is at 8:00 p.m.
