You can find Jibri McLean, ’17 anywhere on campus, from singing with the Kokosingers in Rosse Hall to playing as a wide receiver on the Lords football team down by the KAC.  HerCampus Kenyon had the privilege of sitting down and talking with our first freshman Campus Cutie.  Do you know the real Jibri?

Name: Jibri McLean
Age/Year: 19/First Year
Major: Undecided, aspires to be a dentist
Hometown: Baltimore, MD
Relationship Status: Single

HCK: I don’t know if you know this, but you’re the first person from the class of 2017 to be a campus cutie.  How does that make you feel?
Jibri: I’m surprised!  I didn’t think that it would be me, but I’m grateful to be nominated.

You went to an all-boys high school. Did that experience prepared you for a very co-ed college environment?
Yes, definitely. Though I went to a boys’ school we interacted a lot with the girls’ schools across the street, which definitely got rid of any social awkwardness I might have had in high school.

Do you have any warm-up rituals or weird superstitions that you do before every game or performance?
I just pray to God and ask him to bless me to perform well and to make sure that I have a good time.

What has been your favorite Kenyon memory so far?
Either scoring my first touchdown vs. Ohio Wesleyan or the first Kokes concert a few weekends ago.

If you could describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Honest, caring, and passionate.

If there were a Hollywood movie made about your life, whom would you choose to play you?
(laughs) Definitely Chris Tucker.

If you could sing a duet with anybody, living or dead, who would it be?
Probably with Boys II Men.

What do you look for in a significant other?
Someone who’s honest and who cares about being with me.  She should not be afraid to share anything with me and should be someone I can trust.

Describe your ideal date.
I would pick the girl up and make her think we we’re doing a standard dinner and movie date.  We’d go to the movie first, but then I would surprise her by arranging a picnic dinner under the stars.

What is one thing that you want to do before you graduate?
Kind of along the same lines as my ideal date idea…I’d want to have date on Sunset Point.  That’d be awesome.

Ally Bruschi is a senior political science major at Kenyon College. She spent this past summer interning as a writer with both The Daily Meal, a digital media group  dedicated to "all things food and drink" and The Borgen Project, a non-profit organization that partners with U.S. policymakers to alleviate global poverty. Before entering the "real world" of jobs, however, Ally spent many summers as a counselor at an all-girls summer camp in Vermont, aka the most wonderful place on earth. A good book, a jar of peanut butter, a well-crafted Spotify playlist, and a lazy dog could get her through even the worst of days.
