Though I do love it here at Kenyon, in my eyes, nothing will ever beat snuggling at home with my dog. While I can’t exactly bring him up to college with me, I have found a few ways to cope with being separated from him, and one of my new favorite things to do in my free time is to watch dog videos on Vine.
Vine is definitely an interesting form of social media, and while I do not have a Vine account myself, that does not stop me from perusing many of these six-second videos. It’s amazing how much content a creator can capture in only six short seconds, and the vines that features dogs are my favorite, because they combine comedy with absolutely adorable animals. So, if you miss your furry friends at home or just want to watch some cute canines for six seconds at a time, check out some of my favorite dogs on Vine:
1. Joey Ahern and Steel Joey is a seemingly normal guy who lives in Florida with his Husky, Steel. Though I feel extremely sorry for that Husky living in the Florida heat, I can’t help but love the adorable relationship between Joey and Steel. Notable pastimes between these two best buds include playing hide and seek (Steel can both hide and seek), howling, and reenacting The Circle of Life from The Lion King.
2. Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund Crusoe, a tiny black dachshund, is a powerhouse on multiple social media platforms, not just on Vine. For example, his blog celebritydachshund.com, won the Best Pet Blog award in 2013 and in 2014. Vine, however, is where Crusoe really shines. He is famous for dressing up in crazy costumes, such as Batman and Wile E. Coyote, which are all handmade by his owner. He is also known for being incredibly adorable.
3. Lilly and the Hairless Although Lilly, a terrier mix, shares this account with her siblings (a hairless dog and a cat), she is definitely the star of the show. She stares right into the camera with her big eyes and you have to love her. Her favorite trick is the “best friend”, in which her owner asks, “Who’s your best friend?” and Lilly promptly places her paw on the dog or cat standing next to her. She can also clean up her toys and place them in a basket.
4. Jax the Puppy Jax is a one-year-old pit bull who has stolen the hearts of many Vine followers. He is a swimming enthusiast and is excellent at begging for food. He is most famous for being able to both “speak” and “whisper” (sometimes). Jax’s owner has also posted Vines advocating for a greater appreciation of pit bulls. Though the media portrays pit bulls as animals to be feared, they can indeed make wonderful companions.
While watching these cute dogs on Vine cannot compare to having one that you can actually play and cuddle with, the videos do provide a daily dose of cuteness that I think everybody needs.
