Autumn is not a season I really experienced until I came to Kenyon. The dramatic color changes in the foliage and transition into colder weather are not particularly prevalent in Southern California, where I lived for 18 years before coming to Kenyon. And I think we can all agree how beautiful and incredible autumn is here in Gambier. Whether it’s your favorite season (like it is mine!) or not, there are specific things that define the season for everyone. What do you think of when you hear autumn?

I think of bundling up with flannels or sweaters and breaking out cozy boots. The gravel of Middle Path crunches underneath our heels as we walk swiftly to class. We hear wind rustling high in the tree branches, blowing the fallen leaves of red and orange and golden yellow along sidewalks and roads alike. Rain plops and pours for days in a row, slopping the browning and disappearing leaves into puddles. We slip and slide along under rain jackets and funky umbrellas.

It’s about coziness, comfort, and contentment. Autumn feels tranquil despite the oncoming storm of the winter months, brimming with anticipation and sleepy students. It makes me pensive, and I like that, too. So I composed a playlist to match these emotions that I feel about autumn.
