5 Natural Hair Care Lines for Beautiful, Healthy Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Good hair: it’s something that every girl strives for. And while it might be a superficial desire, the way we cut, color and style our hair is a means of self-expression. That being said, it’s important to think about unintended effects of the products we use. Certain chemicals found in many shampoos and conditioners can be damaging not only to our luscious locks, but also to our bodies. For example, sulfates are harsh on your scalp and parabens have been shown to disrupt hormone function. Keep reading for natural hair care lines that will keep your hair beautiful and healthy.

  1. Burt’s Bees

Burt’s Bees, the company we all know and love, makes shampoo and conditioners that clean your hair without damaging it. Whether you need product that helps with hydration, volume, or shine, Burt’s Bees has got you covered. And at $8 for 10 oz., your wallet won’t mind either.

  1. Güd (from Burt’s Bees)
If you’re not into that classic feel that Burt’s Bees has to offer, Güd might just be what you’re looking for. Like Burt’s Bees products, Güd shampoos and conditioners don’t have any damaging sulfates, but they’re offered in fruitier and more floral scents. A 12 oz. bottle will only set you back $7.

  1. Aveda
With salons across the country offering services and personalized advice, Aveda is a company that’s truly invested in healthy hair. All of their shampoos and conditioners are made with an emphasis on natural ingredients that are catered specialized needs. For example, Acacia helps add volume, aloe helps keep hair shiny, and quinoa helps repair damage. Though some products are as little as $12 for an 8.5 oz. bottle, some can be as much as $25.
  1. Avalon Organics

Whether you need a product to help with strength, shine or volume, Avalon Organics has it.  With a proud “devotion to organic ingredients,” this company offers a variety of sulfate-free, paraben-free scents such as lemon, peppermint, or rosemary.  Prices are reasonable, too—A 10 oz. bottle of shampoo or conditioner will cost you just over $10.

  1. Carol’s Daughter

Like the other companies that made this list, Carol’s Daughter is dedicated to providing customers with hair and skin products made from natural ingredients.  What sets Carol’s Daughter apart from the rest, however, is the fact that they are cognizant of everyone’s needs—products are tailored for straight, curly, frizzy, dry, coarse, thin or color treated hair.  An 8.5 oz. bottle of shampoo will cost about $13 to $18 and conditioners can cost up to $20.
