Over spring break, I studied abroad in London with one of my professors and a small group of students to learn about the courts and legal system. Here were my top five favorite places that you need to check out if you find yourself across the pond.

Waxy O’Connors

Looking for a gigantic, authentic Irish pub with great drinks, music and atmosphere? Waxy O’Connors is the place for you! After a long week of exploring all that London had to offer, my group and I ended our time together at Waxy O’Connors. We all were able to experience such a British place together, including our professor. I had a whiskey and coke and sang along to songs like “Piano Man” and “Mr. Brightside” after the best week of my life. This was the perfect farewell to London that left us wondering why we hadn’t been going there every day of our trip.

Westminster Abbey

If you’re looking for something more historical and very peaceful, Westminster Abbey is perfect for you. It’s not only located in the political and religious heart of the city but also it’s absolutely gorgeous. I chose not to use an audio-guided tour while walking through and instead just soaked in everything I was seeing on my own. Despite all the tourists, I found it a really great place to clear my head and feel at peace.

Kensington

While I didn’t go inside the palace itself, the surrounding park was one of my favorite places to see in London. It was a beautiful, wide space with greenery, statues and people enjoying themselves. I can imagine going on a morning walk or run there as people walk their dogs or read a book. Kensington is also close to a plethora of cute neighborhoods and shops. It has to be a nice place- William and Kate live there!

Wetherspoons

Everywhere you go, you’ll find a Spoons in London. This chain of bars will provide you with some of the best and cheapest drinks you can find along with a lively atmosphere. I went to two different Spoons and while they were very different in setup, the vibes and drinks were amazing in both. I wish I could’ve tried their halloumi while I was there, but maybe next time. What I like about Spoons is that you’ll never know what to expect. Some may give off a more nightlife vibe while some can be more chill. Either way, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.

Simmons

Unlike Spoons, you won’t be finding any cheap drinks at Simmons. What you will be finding, however, is lively bartenders, good music and the best shots in the world. Their birthday cake shots were to die for. On top of that, the night I went there I ran into my long-time internet best friend, making it somewhere I made a core memory. Seriously though, those birthday cake shots were so good. A bit pricey, but what else would you expect from London?
