Tia Loop: a USG professional

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Tia Loop has been a member of USG for more than a year at Kent State University. She has held the position of Senator of the College of the Arts and has recently been elected to serve as the Director of Communications for Fall 2014. USG stands for Undergraduate Student Government and serves to represent the students here at Kent State. They provide the college community with a multitude of useful attributes including concerts, comedy shows, judicial advocates, program grants, a readership program, and even bike rentals. USG serves to help students gain the opportunity to fully utilize what Kent State has to offer. With only twenty-five officials, Tia Loop is one of the few that holds a coveted spot in the organization.

As Senator of the College of the Arts, Loop was tasked with making sure the students within the College of the Arts were being heard and given what they deserved. She worked closely with the faculty members and also assisted with events held by USG. Her position was held from Fall 2013 and will close at the end of this semester. Her new position as Director of Communications will begin Fall 2014.

“USG has taught me the importance of connecting to other students on campus…it’s important to help support each other in our goals and aspirations.” – Tia Loop

Loop feels that USG has astronomically helped her prepare for her future career path. Her skills learned from the organization include teamwork, work ethic, professionalism, problem solving, and communication. These skills are extremely important to be efficient in when entering the workforce. Tia feels as if she is more than prepared for her future thanks to USG.

Interested in joining USG? Elections are held every spring semester and applications are available in the month of January, when students get back from winter break. Tia highly recommends reaching out to current USG members if you are interested and to ask them questions regarding the positions. For further information, the USG office is located in the Student Center in Room 122A.
