Fashion’s biggest night has returned: The Met Gala, personally curated by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

With a long list of celebrity invitees and statements of up-and-coming fashion, this event always makes headlines. The gala is preceded by an exhibit in the Metropolitan Museum of Art based on the topic of the year.

This year’s topic? American Fashion.

This focus highlights American fashion designers such as Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and Tom Ford, one of the honorary chairs of the gala.

Each year, a handful of important people in fashion and influence are chosen to co-chair the event, this year included Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman. An even smaller number of people are constant honorary chairs, such as Anna Wintour, Adam Mosseri and Tom Ford.

With a history of the Met Gala occurring on the first Monday in May, (catchy, right?), this year was different. Due to the ongoing pandemic it was postponed and was held on Sept. 13, which was the second Monday of the month. They were forced to cancel the event last year.

“American designers are at the forefront of conversations around diversity, inclusivity, sustainability, gender fluidity, and body positivity, and the framework of the show enables us to focus on the younger designers who are engaging thoughtfully and deeply with those ideas,” The Costume Institute’s Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said of the exhibit in Vogue’s September issue.

Here are some of my personal favorite looks:

Iman and Harris Reed in Harris Reed
Zoë Kravitz brought the bling in Saint Laurent
Barbie Ferreira wearing Jonathan Simkhai
Nicola Peltz in Valentino
Kendall Jenner wears Givenchy
Yara Shahidi paying homage to Josephine Baker in Dior
Frank Ocean wears Prada x Homer accompanied by his lime green baby plus-one
Billie Eilish brought the glam in this romantic Oscar de la Renta gown
Ayesha Curry supplied one of my favorite looks of the night, and her darling husband matched her perfectly in Versace
Co-chair and poet Amanda Gorman channeled the statue of liberty in her beautiful Vera Wang gown
Host Keke Palmer literally shines in Sergio Hudson
Co-chair Timothée Chalamet stuns in Haider Ackermannn
(let’s just forget about the Converse, okay?)
Anok Yai looked unbelievable in this gorgeous Oscar de la Renta dress
Gigi Hadid debuted a red ponytail in her strapless Prada gown
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky showed up to the red carpet fashionably late in Balenciaga and ESL
(doesn’t A$AP look so cozy?)
When I think American Fashion, I think denim
Lupita Nyong’o completely knew how to use the material to her benefit in Versace.
Kaia Gerber looks gorgeous in Oscar de la Renta
The final co-chairswoman Naomi Osaka wowed in Louis Vuitton
Lil Nas X channeled Lady Gaga and showed out in not one, not two, but three looks
I am literally obsessed with Kristen Stewart in this Chanel outfit

After a year without the Met Gala, I am so relieved to have it back. The night was filled with stars and stripes, red white and blue, fun and safety measures to protect the attendees.

As always, some of these looks will define the fashion in our lifetime.

Look at these beautiful co-chairspeople:

P.S. if I missed any of your favorite men, just know they probably showed up in a black tux.
