It’s hard not to, but we all need to stop comparing ourselves to our friends. Whether it is our love life, our looks or our grades. Most of us have this issue and it can really cause problems within our friendships.

Comparing your grades with other people’s is difficult because it does not reflect how smart you are. If your friend did better than you, it tends to make us feel worse about ourselves. Over time, it can start causing other self-doubting issues within our heads. It can make you fall into a dangerous trap.

It is normal to compare our grades with our friends, but if they tend to get higher grades in general, don’t get upset if you did everything you could to get the best grade possible. Yes, it can be annoying, but you do not want to lose your sense of self. There are going to be classes that you will be better at than some of your friends, and vise versa.

What else can comparing your grades do to your emotional/mental state:

1. It does not help you accomplish your goals.

Working hard towards your goals is important. So when you stay up all night studying and you get your grade back and are happy with it, DO NOT ask what your friends got on their exams. It doesn’t matter what they got as long as you are happy with your grade.

2. It is a losing battle.

Comparing yourself to others is a losing battle because you will always find something that you think is “better” than you could do/be. It will cause you to start resenting your friends, and will cause self esteem issues.

STOP the comparissons! Instead, study hard, try your best, and before you know it, your life will be more positive than it was before!
