Have you ever thought of the many ways that you can use natural materials to reduce waste and make use of what is given through nature around us? Well, in this article, I am going to teach you one of the ways to do so – by turning flower petals into paint.

Let’s say you have a garden, and the season has come where the flowers are reaching their rest time until the next sprout. Or, your partner has gifted you a bouquet, and you want to maintain the flowers in some way, somehow, as a beloved keepsake. Well, let me teach you step-by-step how to create your own paint from the petals of your beautiful flowers.

For the following list, I drew inspiration and information from “Grow Wild,” “Baketivity” and “Enid Baxter Ryce”, and from my own knowledge/experience on the topic at hand.

. Collect your petals

Go ahead and grab your flowers, and gather your petals from them one by one.

. Extract the color from the petals

For this step, you will want to grab a pot and place a small amount of water inside it. Next, bring the water to a boil. You will want to simmer the water until it is slightly evaporated and the water has reached a deep and rich color.

. Straining Time!

Now, it is time to strain. I recommend using a cheesecloth for this process. This will be most efficient and helpful in separating the liquid.

. Bring it to it’s fullest potential

Adding a few drops of vinegar and a touch of salt will both brighten your colors and increase longevity for maximum use.

If you are looking to reduce your contribution to waste and make use of what the planet has to offer us, try this out! This will be an unforgettable, relaxing and resourceful experience for all who try it.
