As I’m sure many of you know, the 2021 Grammy Nominations came out last Tuesday.

Looking over the list of nominees, I realized there were a lot of surprising, disappointing and predictable choices.

I’m sure everyone has their own opinions on who will when each category, as do I, which is why I’m writing this article. That being said, here are the nominees for Record of the Year:

  • “Black Parade” by Beyonce

  • “Colors” by Black Pumas

  • “Rockstar” by DaBaby featuring Roddy Rich

  • “Say So” by Doja Cat

  • “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish

  • “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa

  • “Circles” by Post Malone

  • “Savage” by Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyonce

Although I could be completely wrong, I truly believe “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish or “Circles” by Post Malone is going to win this award. Both of those songs have been ingrained into my brain as “Freshman Year Songs.” Both overplayed and overhyped by my past-year self.

The next award is Album of the Year.

  • Chilombo by Jhene Aiko

  • Black Pumas (Deluxe Edition) by Black Pumas

  • Everyday Life by Coldplay

  • Djesse Vol. 3 by Jacob Collier

  • Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa

  • Hollywood’s Bleeding by Post Malone

  • Folklore by Taylor Swift

Let’s all be honest here. Folklore by Taylor Swift deserves this award. I do not care that it was not out for the entirety of 2020, it is Taylor Swift’s best album to date. It’s a lyrical genius, tells three different stories and all around absolutely beautiful. A close second is Chilombo by Jhene Aiko. This album was life-changing towards the end of my freshman year.

Thirdly, we move onto the Best New Artist category. This is a tough one.

  • Ingrid Andress

  • Phoebe Bridgers

  • Chika

  • Noah Cyrus

  • D Smoke

  • Doja Cat

  • Kaytranada

  • Megan Thee Stallion

As much as I want Phoebe Bridgers to win this award, I think she is still too “underground” for the Academy to recognize her in this way. She truly deserves it though, which is unfortunate. So, if I had to choose, this award is definitely going to Noah Cyrus or Megan Thee Stallion. Doja Cat would have had a chance if she didn’t run into all the controversy she did this year.

Moving onto Best Pop Vocal Album, the nominees are

  • Changes by Justin Bieber

  • Chromatica by Lady Gaga

  • Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa

  • Fine Line by Harry Styles

  • Folklore by Taylor Swift

Firstly, let’s discuss Harry’s THREE Grammy nominations this year! I feel like a proud mother, but moving on, I think either Folklore or Fine Line will win this award. The other albums are not as popular across mainstream media.

The last category I’ll go over today is Best Pop Solo Performance.

  • “Yummy” by Justin Bieber

  • “Say So” by Doja Cat

  • “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish

  • “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa

  • “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles

  • “Cardigan” by Taylor Swift

This might be the hardest category to assume a winner for. I know for sure “Yummy” and “Don’t Start Now” are out. As I am a die-hard Harry stan, this is hard for me to say, but I believe “Everything I Wanted” by Billie Eilish will win this award.

In conclusion, I am very excited to see if my predictions are reality. If you’re wondering if yours are as well, tune into the Grammy Awards on January 31, 2020!
