#LoveYourLocalGirlGangs: Makeup Artists of Kent State University

Are you a student at Kent State University who is a strong feminist looking for a kick-butt women’s organization to join during your time at college? Are you unsure of which one to join? Well, look no further. This week Her Campus Kent State is doing a campaign called #LoveYourLocalGirlGangs where we will be featuring five fabulous organizations here at Kent State. The intent is to empower women while having fun and doing something they love and are passionate about! Check out the interview below for all the details of these organizations below!

Makeup Artists of Kent State University

Her Campus: What is the purpose/goal of your organization?

Makeup Artists of Kent State University: We are an organization composed of makeup enthusiasts and artists with the primary initiative to advance professionalism and opportunities to develop skills in theatrical and glam makeup techniques. As an organization we strive to provide opportunities to build upon an established base of makeup knowledge, tips and tricks. We are dedicated to the advancement in the beauty industry.

HC: How does your organization empower women?

MUA Kent State: We empower women by reinforcing the importance of expressing yourself through makeup. We stress the beauty that each woman holds with and without a beat face.

HC: Who is in charge of your organization?

MUA Kent State: Janaye Bullock, President with a fashion merchandising major; Dominique Gordon, Vice President with a marketing major; Carrie Esser- Freelance Team Coordinator with an entrepreneurship major; E’Lyric Christopher, Treasurer with a managerial marketing major; Rachel Jurus, Secretary with a fashion merchandising major; Jada Montozzi, Public Relations Chair & Historian with a fashion merchandising major; Kasse Kaczmerak, Social Media Chair with a public relations major; Madi Alten, Theater Representative with a costume design major; Morgan Wano, Community Outreach Chair with a fashion merchandising major and Meg Spisak, Graphic Designer with a visual communication design major.

HC: Janaye, why did you create this organization?

MUA Kent State: I started this organization because I have such a passion for the beauty industry and makeup, and there was such a huge white space here at Kent State for those who had an interest in makeup. I started MUA Kent State with the goal to form a community of enthusiasts and artists who can inspire each other and, learn and collaborate while at Kent.

HC: Tell us about your upcoming events for this year!

MUA Kent State: We will be announcing our Flash Face Awards winners at our next mass meeting, November 6th at 7:30 p.m. in Bowman Hall room 137. We also have mass meetings at 7:30 p.m. every other Monday. 

HC: How does someone become a member?

MUA Kent State: Join us at one of our mass meetings every other Monday or at one of our pop-up tables at the Kent Student Center. If you would like to be added to our listserv, send us an email at muakentstate@gmail.com

HC: How can students stay updated on everything MUA Kent State this semester?

MUA Kent State: We promote our events and opportunities mostly on Instagram but we also update our Twitter and Snapchat.
