Say what you will about the 46th president, I’ve heard it all. “He’s so old!” “He hasn’t done anything!” Some of these are valid criticisms, but Biden has more than proved his capability in office during his first term. Let’s give credit where it is due: President Biden gets things done.

The Whole Getting it Done

In August of 2022, the long-awaited Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law. The Act passed in both the house and the senate on partisan lines. This law has important measures to address climate change as well as incentivize the transition to green forms of energy. Hank Green made a great video breaking down each piece of the Inflation Reduction Act. Biden’s climate plan was delayed time and time again by moderate democrats in the senate. Biden never stopped fighting for it. He met every challenge and brought home a win for Americans.

Biden did not stop there.

He continues to fight for change. Just this week, Biden made big moves from the president’s desk by pardoning around 6,500 people convicted of marijuana possession under federal law. He also made a statement encouraging governors to do the same under state law.

Biden has made other moves that deserve praise. Biden is using his executive power to forgive federal student loans. Americans earning under $125,000 per year, will be eligible for $10,000 in loan forgiveness, and students who received Pell Grants will be eligible for $20,000. Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan can help 43 million borrowers cancel their debt. His plan also helps current and future borrowers by creating an income-driven repayment plan. This plan caps monthly loan repayment at 5% of a borrower’s income, permanently.

This is huge.

The president’s plan addresses income inequality and will help college graduates to get a step closer to the “American Dream” they were promised.

Biden has gained my respect during his time as president. While he’s not perfect, he has delivered many important campaign promises, including going above and beyond my expectations.

The rise of the “Dark Brandon” meme

Along with his success, Biden has also become the face of a meme trend.

This meme began on right-wing Twitter, as a way to mock the president, but was recently co-opted by the left to praise him. The meme format has been used by white house officials including Andrew Bates, White House Deputy Press Secretary.

All this to say, I have been pleasantly surprised by the Biden administration. I am proud at the actions he has taken to address climate change, student debt and more; and he is still hard at work. This presidency has given me new hope for a brighter future. I hope you will join me in congratulating our 46th president.

Dark Brandon strikes again.
