How to host the perfect Friendsgiving

I can’t believe how fast this semester has flown by and that it’s almost Thanksgiving! Growing up, Thanksgiving was my absolute favorite holiday, but over the years, Christmas has definitely replaced its spot as my favorite. What makes Thanksgiving so special is celebrating with the people you love, eating amazing food and reflecting on all of the things you are thankful for from the past year.

This year, I want to recreate those special memories by hosting a Friendsgiving party. I’ve never really done a traditional Friendsgiving before, but this year, I am determined to make it perfect.

To start, the first thing I will be doing is creating invitations on Canva! Canva has great templates for any occasion and their website is very easy to use. Although invitations aren’t necessary, I think they are so fun and are a great addition. Canva is also a great tool to use for creating a menu for the night! After sending out invitations, it would be fun to ask everyone what they are bringing, so you can print out pictures of the menu for each guest to have.

Regarding the menu, creating a shared spreadsheet of ideas would be a great way to make sure that no one brings the same dish, or so that you aren’t stuck with only five pies for dinner! You could also come up with the menu yourself and just have each person choose from the list you made to make things even easier.

If you are looking for something unique to make or bring, Pinterest and TikTok have great ideas on both food and drinks. I love the traditional Thanksgiving food’s so I will definitely be making pumpkin pie this year.

Decorations are another big part of hosting the perfect Friendsgiving. To create a cozy vibe, I recommend having warm lighting and lots of candles! Almost every store has fall or Thanksgiving decor, but I personally think DIY decor is the cutest.

I have seen some very cute crafts on social media that would be perfect for Friendsgiving decor, including paper chains, ribbon/bow garland, personalized place cards etc.! If you love to crochet or sew, you could make even more cute decorations. Creating placemats, coasters or mini pumpkins are some more fun ideas. The DIY possibilities are endless, and they are also affordable!

Of course, there are tons of other ways to host the perfect Friendsgiving, but these are just a few of my favorites that I’ll be using this year! Whether you’re living in a dorm, apartment or house, you can still create a cute and cozy Friendsgiving that you and your friends will love.
