How to Make Sweatpants Look Chic During Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Finals week is almost here, which means pulling all-nighters and waking up the next day at 7:45 a.m. for exams. The last thing you probably have on your mind is what you should wear for class. Instead of throwing on leggings and an oversized hoodie, try a pair of sweatpants. They are more versatile than you think. Here are 10 ways to keep you comfy while looking chic as you finish out the semester strong.

1. Coordinate a matching jacket with sweet kicks.

Good news, tracksuits are back and better than ever. Rock an Adidas Superstar tracksuit with your favorite sneakers to take you from the classroom to the gym. If you’re feeling girly and want to look effortlessly cute, channel early 2000s Paris Hilton with a Juicy Couture sweatsuit paired with an oversized handbag and simple tennis shoes.

2. Wear a fitted sweater

Sweaters have always been a cozy staple for the winter. So, look for fitted ones such as boxy turtlenecks to keep you warm and chic with your favorite joggers.

3. Dig out your denim

A denim shirt or jean jacket can make your sweatpants go from sloppy to stylish. Add a touch of class to your outfit by incorporating a printed scarf or statement necklace.

4. Go with graphics

Graphic sweatshirts add personality to any outfit. Whether you decide to rep your favorite brand’s logo or share a funny saying, you’ll be sure to stand out in the lecture hall.

5. Step out in boots

Wearing sweatpants with boots can be tricky because you want to avoid them spilling over the top of your boots. Look for sweatpants with cuffs at the bottom, so that you can roll them up to show off your booties. If you’re trying to wear taller boots, go with sweatpants that have a skinny leg.

6. Tuck in your flannels

Flannels are another popular winter staple. Pair your favorite flannel with a pair of bootleg sweatpants or joggers. Complete the tomboy inspired outfit with a pair of hightop Vans or Converse sneakers.

7. Breakout your leather jackets

You know you’re going to ace your history exam. So, let your confidence show by wearing an edgy moto jacket.

8. Opt for bright colors and long coats

It may be tempting to wear neutral dark colors to match the drab season but some studies show that certain colors can affect your mood. Make sure you go into your finals in an optimistic mood by sporting bright colored sweats. Stay warm and give your outfit a contemporary feel by wearing a long coat and trendy hat.

9. Try funky slip-on sneakers

Slip-on sneakers can be just as comfy as regular sneakers. Plus, you don’t have to waste your time tying your shoes when you’re running late. Pom Pom shoes have been a must have for it girls lately. They look great with skinny sweatpants and a loose thermal.

10. Don’t limit your choices

Sweatpants are not just made with the traditional cotton/polyester blend and some in basic colors. Many retailers have jumped on the athletic leisure bandwagon and are introducing joggers made of different fabrics and prints, including faux leather, leopard print and chambray. Going with one of these options automatically adds a coolness factor to your outfit.
