A Playlist of Songs to Help You Romanticize Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Has anyone ever told you that you need to start “romanticizing your life?” Do you want to try but don’t know where to start? Why not with a song or two? I’ve curated a few songs I listen to to help me romanticize the smallest things from eye contact to driving. It’s important to have a soundtrack for every situation. These four songs have helped me put words to certain feelings I couldn’t describe before. Get ready for some serious “main character” moments.

“Enchanted” by Taylor Swift

Picture this: you’re in a crowded room and see your soulmate from across the way. You haven’t even met this person yet but you just know they’re the one for you. In your mind, this song begins to play as you make your way towards each other. Your heart is telling you this moment is going to change your life forever. You meet this person and everything changes. One lyric that stands out is “My thoughts will echo your name until I see you again.” This song is for people who want to romanticize meeting someone for the first time when they can’t leave your head. It’s beautiful and refreshing. It’s enchanted.

“I wanna get better” by bleachers

This song by Bleachers is perfect for late night drives with your best friends. It’s about living life to the fullest despite all of life’s obstacles. It’s energetic and upbeat but the lyrics contrast this. It’s a lot like life. Things can be going well on the surface but be lonely inside. This song is for when you want to get better but don’t know where to start. I like to start with screaming the lyrics to this song especially “I didn’t know I was broken till I wanted to change.”

“supercut” by lorde

Although “Ribs” is the quintessential coming-of-age Lorde song, “Supercut” has much more impact when you really sit down and analyze the lyrics. It has a far deeper sense of longing and also can connect more to college-aged students while “Ribs” is for those in high school. “Ribs” can romanticize the fear of growing old, but “Supercut” romanticizes how fast growing old happens. One lyric that sticks out to me is “All the moments I play in the dark / Wild and fluorescent / Come home to my heart.” This perfectly captures the passage of time and how we often see our lives as supercuts of certain moments.

“what a feeling” by one direction

If you want a more chill song to romanticize your life to, One Direction has the perfect one for you! Even if you don’t have someone in your life who you can sing the lyrics to, it still has the perfect vibe for late night drives or dancing around your bedroom. Seriously, put this song on and feel the music. Let your body enjoy the rhythm and the beat. Ignore the lyrics if you can’t relate to them. But remember, “Whatever chains are holding you back / Holding you back, don’t let ’em tie you down.” I couldn’t offer better advice myself. Thanks, 1D!

Happy listening!
